A CASUALTY by Shairoz Jiwa

Lessons learned with time did fade,
The radiance that once shone on your face...
Sin after sin made you turn away,
But what will you say on Judgement Day?

There used to be a light in your eyes,
For Allah's name every tear you would cry...
Somewhere between hope and fear,
With every footstep an angel was near.

A heart neglected begins to rust,
But a little bit of love can bring back trust.
Patience is a virtue few understand,
And only falling on your knees gives you the strength to stand.

Countless blessings you can't deny,
But how can you be thankful when you've already died?
Sometimes reality is only your perception,
And yet you don't realize that you're a casualty of deception.

RECIPE

Spinach rolls recipe

1 bunch spinach washed and cleaned.
Neatly slice out the middle vein, leaving the leaf whole
½ kg cooked chicken filling of choice
1 egg whisked with salt and fine red chillies

Method
Lay all spinach leaves flat. Brush with egg mixture. Place 1 tblsp or more of chicken filling on each leaf, depending on the size of the leaf. Roll each leaf closed like a spring roll, making sure all the sides are closed. At the end pierce it close with a clove. Place all spinach rolls in a pot and steam on low for 15 to 20 minutes until the colour of the leaves change. Lightly brush both sides with olive oil and fry for just a minute on each side. Serve hot with puri and chutney.

A woman holding a baby walks into a pharmacy and asks if she can use the store's baby scale.

"Sorry, ma'am," says the storekeeper. "Our baby scale is broken. But we can figure the baby's weight if we weigh mother and baby together on the adult scale, and then weigh the mother alone, and subtract the mother's weight."

"Oh, that won't work," says the woman.

"Why not?" asks the man.

"Well," she says, "I'm not the mother - I'm the aunt."
