The Month of Shabaan: Part 2
Laylatul Bara`ah
Another significant feature of the month of Sha’baan is that it consists of a night which is termed in Shariah as “Laylatul-bara’ah” (The night of freedom from Fire). This is the night occurring between 14th and 15th day of Sha’baan. There are certain traditions of Nabi ﷺ to prove that it is a meritorious night in which the people of the earth are attended by special Divine mercy.
It is reported from Hadhrat Muadh bin Jabal (R.A.) that Rasulullah (S.A.W.) said: “On the fifth night of Sha`baan Allah bestows his special attention on His entire creation. He then pardons His entire creation except an idolater and one who harbours enmity.’ – Tabrani has recorded this Hadith in Awsat, Ibnu-Hibaan in his Sahih and Baihaqi – Targhib-wat-Tarhib Page 118 V2, Page 459 V3 read more |

- Nizam Al Kafala – Modern Day Slavery
By Annisa Essack
The Nizam Al Kafala or sponsorship system is a legal framework defining the relationship between migrant workers and their employers in Jordan, Lebanon, and all Arab Gulf states except Iraq. It was created to supply cheap, plentiful labour in an era of booming economic growth, and its defenders argue that it benefits local businesses and helps drive development.
However, the system is highly controversial as it has been called out for the exploitation it fosters. Due to a lack of regulations and protections for migrant workers’ rights, this often results in low wages, poor working conditions, and employee abuse. Racial discrimination and gender-based violence are endemic. more

King Faisal of Saudi Arabia Assassinated
In Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, King Faisal is shot to death by his nephew, Prince Faisal.
King Faisal, son of King Ibn Saud, fought in the military campaigns in the 1920s and ’30s that helped forge modern Saudi Arabia. He later served as Saudi ambassador to the United Nations and in 1953 was made premier upon the ascension of his older brother, Saud. In 1964, King Saud was pressured to abdicate, and Faisal became the absolute ruler of Saudi Arabia. As king, he sought to modernize his nation, and lent financial and moral support to anti-Israeli efforts in the Middle East. In 1975, Faisal was assassinated for reasons that remain obscure, and his son, Crown Prince Khalid, ascended to the throne. |

THE
SMILE |
Divy It Up!
A 6th grade teacher posed the following problem to one of her arithmetic classes:
"A wealthy man dies and leaves ten million dollars. One-fifth is to go to his wife, one-fifth is to go to his son, one-sixth to his butler, and the rest to charity. Now, what does each get?"
After a very long silence in the classroom, one little boy raised his hand and with complete sincerity in his voice, answered, "A lawyer!"
