South Africa’s Plan for COVID-19
By Annisa Essack
Since achieving democracy, South Africa is for the first time facing a major event that will have not only a deadly impact on the health of the citizens but one that has already impacted the already crippled economy, an impact that may well change the way we live and interact over a prolonged period of time. The novel coronavirus took the world by storm and gained momentum so quickly that even developed countries found that they were unable to keep up.
South Africa has been no exception and knowledge of the first patient testing positive, the wheels of government began to turn. Much criticism has been flung against the ruling party with regards to the health sector not being prepared, borders that are not well protected and the repatriation of citizens from the epicenter of the initial outbreak.
As the numbers rose to 61 positive patients, an emergency meeting was called by President Cyril Ramaphosa. The meeting lasted several hours before a stoic and grave, with the full knowledge that this may be the greatest test of his leadership President and the competency of his government, addressed his concerned and fearful citizens on the decisions made pertaining to managing the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak in South Africa. read more |

Keeping a Bird as a Pet
Question: Is it permissible to keep a bird as a pet?
Answer: It is permissible to keep a bird as a pet if one takes proper care of it by feeding it timeously, giving it water and not harming it in any way.
A Hadith in Sahih Bukhari states that a young Sahabi by the name of Abu Umair had a small bird as the pet, with the knowledge of the Messenger Sallalahu Alaihi Wasallam. Another Hadith narrated by Imam Bukhari in Adabul Mufrad (Pg.139) mentions that the Sahabah Radhiallahu Anhum were in the habit of keeping birds in cages.

RECIPE |
NACHOS RECIPE
1 Pkt of Doritos – Fusion flavour
250ml sour cream
Cheese
Optional extras: cooked mushrooms, green peppers, gherkins, etc
Chicken cubed +- 1 ½ cups
Marinate with:
1 tsp salt
½ tsp red chilli powder
½ tsp dhana ground
½ tsp jeero ground
¼ tsp arad
1 tsp red masala
Cook the above in 1 Tbsp ghee/ oil. Once half way cooked add ½ grated tomato.
Once cooked add:
1 Tbsp sweet sour sauce
2 Tbsp sweet chillie sauce – simmer on very low for 5 minutes
Don’t let the sauce dry out.
Method:
Switch on oven at 180 degrees. Than start to layer nachos, reason being that Doritos should not get soft with the chicken sauce. In an oven proof dish – small square / rectangle, layer the base with Doritos crisp +- half the pkt. Then layer the saucy chicken over this, Throw mushrooms, pepper, gherkins, on top of the chicken. Now spread ¾ cup of the sour cream over this. Then layer the rest of the Doritos over the sour cream. Top with grated cheese. Dot with the rest of the sour cream. Sprinkle oregano if desirable. Bake for +- 10 – 15 minutes or until cheese starts to melt. Serve while hot. |

THE
SMILE |
A retiring farmer in preparation for selling his land, needed to rid his farm of animals. So, he went to every house in his town.
To the houses where the man is the boss, he gave a horse. To the houses where the woman is the boss, a chicken was given.
He got toward the end of the street and saw a couple outside gardening. "Who's the boss around here?" he asked.
"I Am." said the man.
"I have a black horse and a brown horse," the farmer said, "which one would you like?"
The man thought for a minute and said, "The black one."
"No, no, no, get the brown one." the man's wife said.
"Here's your chicken." said the farmer.
