The Family in Islaam

By Abdul Bari Ath Thubayti

The God-fearing Muslim family is the heart of a healthy community. The piety of a family is dependent on the piety of individual members of the family, and the piety of a community is likewise dependent on the piety of the families who make up the community.

Islam attaches great importance to the family, how it is established and how to keep it together. For the Muslim family to keep up its high position it maintains a state of love and harmony, and you find in it feelings of amicability and Kindness. Allah says, "And among His Signs is this, that He created for you wives from among yourselves, that you may find repose in them, and He has put between you affection and mercy.? He also says, "They are Libaas [i.e. body cover, or screen, or Sakan, (i.e. you enjoy the pleasure of living with her)] for you and you are the same for them." (Al-Baqarah: 187).

The Quran made it clear to married couples that each of them is essential to the other. Allah says, "It is He Who has created you from a single person (Adam), and (then) He has created from him his wife [Hawwa (Eve)], in order that he might enjoy the pleasure of living with her." It cannot be imagined that one could lead a normal, steadfast human life if there was a complete destruction of the normal family structure. read more

THE 99 NAMES OF ALLAH (Asmaa ul Husnaa)

The Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) has said: "Allah has ninety-nine names, i.e. one-hundred minus one, and whoever knows them will go to Paradise." (Sahih Bukhari 50:894)

Abu Huraira RA reported Allah's Messenger (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) as saying: "There are ninety-nine names of Allah; he who commits them to memory would get into Paradise. Verily, Allah is Odd (He is one, and it is an odd number) and He loves odd numbers.." (Sahih Muslim Book-48 Hadith-5)

THE SMILE

POOR CHOICE OF WORDS

Dewey is sitting staring morosely into his drink. Steve walks in, sits down, and asks him what the problem is.

"Well," said Dewey, "I ran afoul of one of those awkward questions women ask. Now I'm in deep trouble at home."

"What kind of question?" asked Steve.

"My wife asked me if I would still love her when she gets old, fat, and wrinkly."

"That's easy," said Steve. "You just say, 'Of course I will.'"

"Yeah," said Dewey, "that's what I meant to say, except I said, 'Of course I DO...'"
