The Skull Breaker Challenge

By Mumtaz Moosa Saley

Not to sound like a typical mother but it is appalling what children are doing on social media these days! Sure, everybody wants to be famous, but it gets really serious, real fast when it becomes too dangerous.

Remember in 2018 when we saw teens eating laundry detergent capsules as part of a challenge? Well, lo and behold, 2020 has brought on the "Skull Breaker Challenge" via “Tik Tok." This new viral video trend that has proven to be fatal.

The challenge originated in Spain and which sees 3 people standing in a row, with the middle participant jumping straight up in the air. Once the middle person is in the air the people on either side then kick the feet of the jumping person, causing them to lose balance and fall to the ground, landing on their back. read more

Killing Spiders

Question: Is it permissible to kill spiders in one's home?

Answer: There are two aspects to consider: on the one hand, a spider made a web at the opening of the cave of Thawr for the protection of Nabi (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) and has thus become worthy of honour and on the other hand, Sayyadina Ali (Radiyallahu Anhu) said: “Wipe spider webs from your houses, for leaving them in the house leads to poverty.”

Keep the above in mind, household spiders who build their webs in corners of our homes are not normally dangerous, should not be killed intentionally. Remove them from the home by sweeping them out or catching them in something like boxes and throwing them out.

It should, however, also be noted that there are some dangerous species of spiders – one is allowed to kill these types of spiders.
