Consider the Kids: The Psychological Effects of Divorce on Children
16 Days of Activism for no Violence against Women and Children runs from the 25th November to 10th December. In connection with this, this week on Radio Islam we are looking at the sufferings of children at the time of divorce. It might not always involve violence but the emotional and psychological abuse is tragic, and sometimes horrific.

Mental Health Problems - Divorce may increase the risk for mental health problems in children and adolescents. Regardless of age, gender, and culture, children of divorced parents experience increased psychological problems. Divorce may trigger an adjustment disorder in children that resolves within a few months. But, studies have also found depression and anxiety rates are higher in children from divorced parents.

Behaviour Problems - Children from divorced families may experience more externalizing problems, such as conduct disorders, delinquency, and impulsive behavior than kids from two-parent families. In addition to increased behavior problems, children may also experience more conflict with peers after a divorce. read more

Abu Huraira RA reported Allah's Messenger (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) as saying: "There are ninety-nine names of Allah; he who commits them to memory would get into Paradise. Verily, Allah is Odd (He is one, and it is an odd number) and He loves odd numbers.." (Sahih Muslim Book-48 Hadith-5)

A Selection of Padkos Recipes

SOFT PURIE RECIPE

Ingredients:

• 3 cups cake flour
• 3 tsp baking powder
• 1 tsp salt
• 3 Tbsp butter
• 1 cup milk
• 1/2 cup water

Method:
Mix together dry ingredients and add butter. Warm together milk and water add into flour and make a soft dough. Roll thicker than roti and fry in hot oil. Purees stay soft and fluffy for days.

HUSBAND and WIFE GAME

WIFE: Honey let's play a game?
HUSBAND: OK, what is the game all about.

WIFE: If I mention a country, you will run to the left side of the room and touch the wall. If I mention a bird or animal you will run to the right side of the room and touch the wall. If you run to the wrong direction, you will give me all your salary for the month.

HUSBAND: OK and if you fail, I will have your salary too?
WIFE: (smile) yes darling.
HUSBAND: OK (stood up and was ready to run to any direction).
WIFE: Are you ready?
HUSBAND: Yes, ready.
