THE MESSAGE |
The time between Asr and Maghrib is the most valuable time for a fasting person. Unfortunately, it is spent in vain by most people. By all means, it is necessary to prepare the Iftaar, but leave valuable time before Iftaar to spend in Ibadah. The best way to do this is to go into the kitchen a little earlier, keep everything well prepared and then leave some time before Maghrib to make Ibadah and Dua.
Make it a must to daily make Dua for at least 10-15 minutes before Iftaar, in seclusion, begging Allah for the best of both worlds. Remember it has been said, “Not a single Dua made by a fasting person at the time of breaking the fast is rejected.” The Prophet (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) states in a narration collected in Tirmidhi that three Dua’s will not be rejected, of those three, is الصَّائِمُ حِينَ يُفْطِرُ, or the fasting person at the moment of breaking the fast.
Make sure you don’t miss out on this special time to make Du’a to Allah. Make Du’a for your afterlife, make Du’a for your worldly life, make Du’a for those whom you love, for the Ummah and whoever else you can think of.
The most common Du’a the Prophet would say after breaking the fast is:
ذَهَبَ الظَّمَأُ وَابْتَلَّتْ الْعُرُوقُ وَثَبَتَ الأَجْرُ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ
“The thirst has departed, the veins are quenched and the reward is confirmed by the will of Allah”.
[Abu Dawood]
This is our chance – Allah’s attention, His mercy, His love, His compassion reach their climax at this time. He refuses no one and turns no soul away at such a time. Pray for the best of both worlds and pour your problems out before the One who is ever ready to listen. Of course, our sustenance must be Halaal for the acceptance of our Duas, for a person that fasts and then breaks his fast with Haraam food is like a sick person who takes medicine as a cure, but also adds a little poison, which destroys him.

Intention When Discharging Zakaat
Question: Is it necessary to make an intention when discharging Zakaat?
Answer: At the time of giving Zakaat to a poor person, one must have the intention in his heart that he is giving this money as Zakaat. If he merely gives it without making an intention, the Zakaat will not be fulfilled. The person will have to give Zakaat again and he will be rewarded separately for the money that he has already given. [Behishti Zewar Page 336]

THE
SMILE |
While queuing in a theme park for a hair-raising ride, I heard my two nephews arguing. ‘Aunt Staci’s going with me!’ insisted Yoni. ‘No,’ said his brother. ‘She’s coming with me!’ Flattered at being so popular, I promised Yoni, ‘You and I can go on the merry-go-round.’ ‘But I really want you to come on this ride,’ he protested. ‘Why?’ I asked. ‘Because the more weight there is, the faster it goes.’
