IBN MARWAN AL-SABI AL-HARRANI

Born in the year 836 A.D. at Harran (present Turkey). As the name indicates he was basically a member of the Sabian sect, but the great Muslim mathematician Muhammad Ibn Musa Ibn Shakir, impressed by his knowledge of languages, and realising his potential for a scientific career, selected him to join the scientific group at Baghdad that was being patronised by the Abbasid Caliphs. There, he studied under the famous Banu Musa brothers. It was in this setting that Thabit contributed to several branches of science, notably mathematics, astronomy and mechanics, in addition to translating a large number of works from Greek to Arabic. Later, he was patronised by the Abbasid Caliph al-M'utadid. After a long career of scholarship, Thabit died at Baghdad in 901 A.D. read more

CHICKEN AND MUSHROOM CUPS

Dough
2 cups flour
¼ tsp salt
2tsp baking powder
125g butter
1 cup cold milk
Place dry ingredients in a bowl, add butter, add milk and form into a dough. Roll dough out thin and cut into rounds using a cutter.Place in greased muffin pan and bake till firm and not brown.Cool

Filling:
2 cups cubed chicken
1 onion chopped
1 tsp crushed garlic
100g butter
1 punnet mushrooms
1 cup diced peppers
Green chillies to taste
Salt to taste
3 tsp aromat
½ tsp black pepper
250ml fresh cream
3 tblsp maziena
215g sweetcorn
2 tblsp mayonnaise

Method:
Sauté onions and garlic in butter. Add chicken and mushrooms, stir fry for a few minutes. Add pepper and spices, pour cream and maziena. Stir till thick and creamy.Remove from heat add sweetcorn and mayonnaise.Spoon filling in cups and sprinkle cheese. Ready to freeze.
