Surah Al-Hashr (The Mustering, Bringing together)

This Surah was revealed in Madinah, and it has 24 verses and 3 sections

In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Most Merciful

"...And whoever is saved from the greed of his soul, then such people are the successful..." 59:9

COMMENTARY: After the mention of the Ansaar's selflessness and self-sacrifice, a general rule of law or a universal principle is being laid down in the concluding part of verse [9].

The words Shuh (avarice) and Bukhl (greed, miserliness) are near synonyms. The word Shuh, however, yields the sense of intensive greed for money and possessions. Shuh (avarice) and Bukhl (greed, miserliness) are absolutely forbidden when a person fails to fulfil obligatory rights, which might be Divine rights, such as Zakaah, Sadaqat-ul-fitr, 'Ushr, oblation and so on, or they might be human rights, such as the maintenance of the family, needy parents and relatives. It is repugnant and reprehensible if Shuh (avarice) and Bukhl (greed, miserliness) prevent one from spending for laudable and rewardable acts.

If one does not spend on customary things, it is not Shuh (avarice) and Bukhl in terms of the sacred laws of Shari'ah.

About all the pain inside.

Struggling to see,
Struggling to hear,
Where am I?
Is the end near?

Eyes fluttering, heart racing,
Not even sure in which direction I'm facing.

If only I'd listened, if only I'd cared,
To all the 'nagging' advices my elders had always shared.

"Make the most of every moment" they'd always said,
Narrating so many related stories from all the books they'd read.

Right through one ear, and straight out of the other,
If only I valued the trust of my father and mother.

Helping me grow, teaching me so much about life,
Trying so hard to keep me safe, with evil outside so rife.

Where are those friends today who always had my back whenever I was doing wrong?
Why did I drop myself to their levels, instead of staying firm and strong?

Now, drowning, sinking, falling, in this ocean of regret,
Shaking, wilting, breaking, like a worthless reject,

I lift my hands up with full conviction for one final heartfelt plea,
And as determined as ever to change, call out with utmost desperation: "Oh Allah, Save Me!"

* KrugersdorpShutdown: Houses burnt as protesters, looters run amok - At least three buildings went up in smoke as protesting residents clashed with police in Krugersdorp.

Cheesy Kebaabs

Ingredients
1 egg, beaten - ½ cup milk - 1 cup fresh bread crumbs - ½ tsp ground garlic - salt / pepper to taste - 1 onion – grated - ½ tsp origanum or parsely - 500g mince - 2 tsp green masala - mozzarella or sweet-milk cheese, cut into strips - ¼ cup flour - ½ tsp salt - ½ tsp ground red chillies.

Method
• Combine the first 9 ingredients together, mix thoroughly
• Shape into croquettes (long finger shapes), placing cheese in the center
• Combine the flour, salt and chillies together. Coat croquettes in this mixture
• Dip in egg and breadcrumbs
• Freeze and fry when required
• Deep-fry until golden all round

I saw an old friend of mine and came up to speak with him. He smiled and went the other way. "I'm sorry but I've got to go online" he called to me, running next door. I looked in the next room for his computer or cell phone but did not see one.

Instead, I saw him put in his hearing aids and look at me again, "You were saying?"
