Surah Ar-Rahman (The All-Merciful)

This Surah is Madani, and it has 78 verses and 3 sections

In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Most-Merciful

"so that you should not be wrongful in weighing." [8]
"And observe the correct weight with fairness, and do not make weighing deficient." [9]

COMMENTARY: ("...so that you should not be wrongful in weighing..." 55:8). The earlier verse stated the creation of the scale, and this verse states the reason for its creation. The imperfect verb 'tatghaw' is derived from 'tughyaan' which stands for 'injustice'. Thus verses [7] and [8] put together mean: '[The 'mizan or scale' has been created so that you may not transgress the balance and thus practice injustice'.

("...And observe the correct weight with fairness..." 55:9). The word 'qist' literally means 'justice'. The meaning is obvious: 'And observe the weight with equity'.

MASALA CHICKEN FILLING

2 cups chicken fillet – cut into cubes
2 tsp fine salt or to taste
1 level tsp red ginger garlic masala
2 tblsp oil
3 medium potatoes cubed and boiled
2 dessertspoons crushed green chillies or to taste
1 level dessertspoon fresh crushed garlic
1 dessertspoon fine dhania
1 tsp fine jeero
2 dessertspoons mayonnaise
½ cup parsley and spring onions chopped
Pinch of nutmeg
Lemon juice

Method:
To chicken add salt, red masala and oil. Allow to simmer on medium heat until all the water has evaporated, but chicken is moist. Add potatoes and the rest of the ingredients and braise. Allow chicken to cool before adding parsley, spring onions and nutmeg.

VARIATION
Add 1 cup mix vegetables, add ½ cup corn – boil vegetables for 10 minutes before adding to chicken.

IDENTITY CRISIS

A gnome is in the garden busily destroying some bushes when a house cat appears. "What are you?" asks the cat.

"A gnome," comes the reply. "I steal food from humans, I kill their plants, I make annoying music at night to drive them crazy, and I love mischief. And what, may I ask, are you?"

The cat replies, "Um, I’m a gnome."
