PERSONALITY |
AL-IDREESI
(1099-1166 AD)
Abu Abdallah Muhammad Ibn Muhammad Ibn Abdallah Ibn Idris al-Qurtubi al-Hasani, was bom in Ceuta, Spain, in 1099 AD. He was educated in Cordova. Later he travelled far and wide in connection with his studies and then flourished at the Norman court in Palermo. The date of his death is controversial, being either 1166 or 1180 AD.
Biographical notes on him are to be found rather rarely, and according to F. Pons Boigues the underlying reason is the fact that the Arab biographers considered al-Idrisi to be a renegade, since he had been associated with the court of a Christian king and written in praise of him, in his work. The circumstances which led him to settle in Sicily at the court of Roger II are not on record. read more

COMEBACKS TO UNSOLICITED SALES CALLERS
Here are some suggested comebacks to unsolicited, persistent telephone sales callers:
~ "I'm sorry, but I'm really busy right now. Give me your home number and I'll call you back later."
~ In the middle of the caller's memorized sales pitch, interrupt with: "What causes a hiccup?"
~ When someone asks whether a spouse is at home: "Yes, but I never allow him/her to talk to strangers."
~ When someone asks how you are: "Well, I'm having an existential crisis at the moment. Let me explain . . ."
~ To a phone company solicitor: "That sounds GREAT! Wait, can you hold for a minute?" (Leave the phone off the hook until he/she hangs up.)
