THE BROTHER AND THE SISTER A FATHER had a son and a daughter. The daughter remarkable for her good looks and the son for his extraordinary ugliness. While they were playing one day as children, they happened by chance to look together into a mirror that was placed on their mother's chair. The girl congratulated herself on her good looks; the boy grew angry, and could not bear the self-praises of his sister, interpreting all she said (and how could he do otherwise?) into reflection on herself. She ran off to her father to be avenged on her Brother, and spitefully accused him of having, as a boy, made use of that which belonged only to girls. The father embraced them both, and bestowing his kisses and affection impartially on each, said, "I wish you both would look into the mirror every day: you, my son, that you may not spoil your beauty by evil conduct; and you, my daughter, that your good conduct is much better than your beauty.” |

| RECIPE | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
MUTTON KORMA RICE RECIPE 3 cups rice boiled with cinnamon stick, whole jeeru, and ½ tsp arad/turmeric. Set aside. Make vagaar with onions and jeeru, braise masalas and add spices, add mutton and cook till almost done. Add tin tomatoes and cook completely till mutton is well done. Remove from heat and add yoghurt, mix this well. Layer in pot, first add a little rice at the bottom of your pot with some ghee, add mutton mixture, potatoes and top with balance of the rice, pour over some saffron water and leave to steam. TELEPHONE MISHAP A woman was at home with her children when the telephone rang. In going to answer it, she tripped on a rug, grabbed for something to hold on to and seized the telephone table. It fell over with a crash, jarring the receiver off the hook. As it fell, it hit the family dog, who leaped up, howling and barking. The woman's three-year-old son, startled by this noise, broke into loud screams. The woman mumbled some colorful words. She finally managed to pick up the receiver and lift it to her ear, just in time to hear her husband's voice on the other end say, "Nobody's said hello yet, but I'm positive I have the right number."
