DISTRACTIONS FROM THE RIGHT PATH

His Eminence Sheikh Ali ibn Abdur-Rahman al-Huthaifi, may Allah preserve him, delivered the Friday khutbah entitled, “Distractions from the Right Path,” in which he talked about Allah’s never-failing promise to the believers, the everlasting bliss that Allah, Exalted be He, has prepared for His obedient servants, and the painful punishment against which He has warned the disobedient and disbelievers. Then he mentioned those things which distract the servant from the path of truth, namely, one’s lower self, one’s evil whims and desires, Satan, and the worldly life. In addition, he showed how the servant may protect himself from these enemies and attain the good pleasure of Allah, Exalted be He, and His Paradise on the Day of Judgement. read more

Ali bin Rabee Ata RA said: I witnessed Ali bin Abi Tãib RA when he was given an animal to ride upon, just when he put his foot in the mount he said: In the name of Allah [Bismillah], then when he had ascended upon its back, he said: All praise be to Allah [Al-hamdu lil-lãh], then he said: Subhãnal-lathee sakh-khara lanã hãthã wa mã kunnã lahu muqrineena. Wa'innã 'lã rabbinã lamunqaliboon (Glory be to Him who has availed this to our use, for we were not bound to it. And to our Lord surely we will be returning).

Then he said Al-hamdu lil-lãhi 3 times, then he said: 'Allãhu 'akbaru, 3 times, then he said: Subhãnaka 'allãhumma 'inne thalamtu nafsee, faghfirlee, fa'innahu lã yaghfiruth-thunooba 'illã 'anta (Glorified are You my ilãh I have transgressed upon myself, so forgive me, for no one forgives sins other than You.)

then he smiled, so he was asked: O Commander of the faithful! why did you smile? He said: I saw the Prophet (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) do as I have done, then he smiled, so I asked him: O' Messenger of Allah! Why do you smile? He said "Your Lord Glorified and Exalted is He, admires when one of His bondservants says: "Lord forgive me my sins, he knows that no one else forgives sins besides Me [Allah]".

CHICKEN STRIPS IN MUSHROOM AND PEPPER SAUCE

350g chicken breasts – cut into strips
1 onion halved and sliced
1 small green pepper thinly sliced
½ a punnet mushrooms – sliced
2 tablespoons oil
125ml milk or cream
1 tsp maizena to thicken
salt & pepper to taste
some garlic to taste
lemon juice

METHOD:

1. Fry onions in oil until glassy,
2. Add green peppers, garlic, mushrooms and cook for 8 minutes and season.
3. Add cream or milk and maizena – mix well.
4. Turn heat on low and add chicken, cook until done.
5. Serve with rice.
