HADITH
(Traditions of the Prophet Muhammad Peace be Upon Him) |
Umar bin Abu Salamah (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: I was a boy under the care of Messenger of Allah (Peace Be Upon Him), and as my hand used to wander around in the dish, he (Peace Be Upon Him) said to me once, "Mention Allah's Name (i.e., say Bismillah), eat with your right hand, and eat from what is in front of you.'' [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
Commentary: Umar bin Abu Salamah (May Allah be pleased with them) had learnt table manners from the Messenger of Allah (Peace Be Upon Him) who was his stepfather and guardian. Hence, we are morally bound to teach our wards or children good manners. |

THE SMILE |
Mary was having a tough day and had stretched herself out on the couch to do a bit of what she thought to be well-deserved complaining and self-pitying.
She moaned to her mom and brother, "Nobody loves me ... the whole world hates me!"
Her brother, busily occupied playing a game, hardly looked up at her and passed on this encouraging word: "That's not true, Mary. Some people don't even know you."
