A REFLECTION ON THE WORSHIP OF OTHER CREATURES
Fellow Muslims! The Almighty Creator created
this universe with His knowledge and wisdom and created in it
all that exists of the angels, men, jinn, animals, plants and
other things which none but He knows. He created all these for
a single purpose that all acts of worship should be solely His,
that all these beings should affirm His Lordship and actualise
all acts of worship for Him alone; and that they should admit
their helpless, submission and their need for Him alone. This
duty can be carried out only by those whom Allaah has made successors
in and inhabitants of the earth and that cannot be achieved
by man except through words of the tongue, deeds of the heart
and the limbs. read

WHEN AFFLICTED WITH A CALAMITY
Allah the Exalted says: "Those that say, when afflicted with calamity, 'Innã lil-lãhi wa 'innã 'ilayhi rãji`oon' (To Allah we belong, and to Him is our return), they are those upon whom [descend] blessings from their Lord and Mercy. And they are the ones who are guided." (Al- Baqarah 2:156-157) 'Ummu Salamata said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah saying: "There is not a servant afflicted with a calamity who then says: 'Innã lil-lãhi wa 'innã 'ilayhi rãji`oona, 'allãhumma'ajirnee fee museebatee, wa 'akhliflee khayran minhã' (We are for Allah, and we are, to Him, returning. O' my 'ilãh grant me reward in my calamity, and cause it to succeeded with good consequence for me), except that Allah would grant him reward in his calamity, and would succeed it with good consequences for him." She said: "So when Abu Salamata [her husband] passed away; I said like the Messenger of Allah had commanded me to. So Allah caused him to be succeeded with one who was better than him for me: 'the Messenger of Allah'. ~ MUSLIM ~ |

SMOKEY DINNER CALL My cooking has always been the target of family jokes. One evening, as I prepared dinner a bit too quickly, the kitchen filled with smoke and the smoke detector went off. Although both of my children had received fire-safety training at school, they did not respond to the alarm. Annoyed, I stormed through the house in search of them. I found them in the bathroom, washing their hands. Over the loud buzzing of the smoke alarm, I asked them to identify the sound. "It's the smoke detector," they replied in unison.
