IBN BATTUTA RA

Also known as Shams ad - Din, was born at Tangier, Morocco, on the 24th February 1304 C.E. (703 Hijra). He left Tangier on Thursday, 14th June, 1325 C.E. (2nd Rajab 725 A.H.), when he was twenty one years of age. His travels lasted for about thirty years, after which he returned to Fez , Morocco at the court of Sultan Abu 'Inan and dictated accounts of his journeys to Ibn Juzay. These are known as the famous Travels (Rihala) of Ibn Battuta. He died at Fez in 1369 C.E.

Ibn Battuta was the only medieval traveller who is known to have visited the lands of every Muslim ruler of his time. He also travelled in Ceylon (present Sri Lanka ), China and Byzantium and South Russia. The mere extent of his travels is estimated at no less than 75,000 miles, a figure which is not likely to have been surpassed before the age of steam. read more

TOPPING
30 ml cooking oil - 2 chicken breasts, cut strips - 1 large onion, cut rings - 2 cloves garlic, crushed - 15 ml chopped ginger - 1 green pepper, cut into strips - 45 ml peri-peri sauce - 125 ml grated mozzarella cheese - 15 ml chooped fresh herbs or 5 ml dried salt and freshly black pepper to taste.

1. Base: Sift flour and salt. Whisk buttermilk and oil and add to dry ingredients to make soft dough. Press dough into a greased 28 cm pizza pan.

2. Topping: Heat oil in a heavy based sauce pan. Add chicken strips and fry starting to brown. Ad onion garlic, ginger pepper and saute until soft. Add peri peri sauce and heat through. Layer all ingredients on pizza base.

3. Top with cheese, herbs and seasoning. Bake in a preheated oven at 200 degree cel for about 25 minutes.

Serve immediately.

A not-too-bright candidate for the police force failed in the written examination. Since he was the Chief's nephew, the examiner decided to go easy on him with the oral test.

"Who shot Abraham Lincoln?", asked the examiner. The candidate pondered for a moment and then asked if he could have sometime to come up with the answer. The examiner told him to come back the next morning.

When the would-be recruit went home, his wife asked, "Well, how did it go? Did you get the job?".

"I think so," he replied. "They have already got me working on a case".
