Commentary: This Hadith illustrates the practice of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) in respect of Qiyam-ul-Lail. It tells us that:

1. The Nafl Salat should be performed with full concentration and peace of mind.

2. The more one is endowed with gifts from Allah, the greater gratitude and worship one should express for them to Allah.

3. The best time for showing one's humility before Allah and for worship is the later period of night.

Steak & Potato Pie

Ingredients:
500gr rump steak, finely cubed
1 tsp ghee
1 tsp garlic paste
1 tsp fresh red chillies
1 tsp salt
1 tsp chilli powder
1 tsp steak & chops spice
½ tsp lemon pepper
3 tbsp vinegar
1 tbsp mustard sauce
1 tbsp chilli sauce
1 tbsp mayonnaise
2 tomatoes, liquidized
2 med potatoes cut into small cubes
Puff pastry
2 egg yolks

Tip: Alternatively one can add cheese and red chutney for a cheesy flavour.

Method:
Cook on high heat for 5 minutes, reduce heat and cook on low until tender. Boil potatoes until cooked. Combine steak and potatoes. Grease a rectangular oven proof dish. Roll out pastry to fit the base and sides of dish. Spoon cooked steak and potato mixture over pastry. Roll out more pastry and cut a rectangle to fit the top of the pie. Place pastry over filling and press sides down with your thumb. Brush with egg yolks. Take a sharp knife and cut squares deep into the pastry. Sprinkle sesame seeds and bake in a pre heated oven of 180 degree until golden brown.

FEELING TRIUMPHANT

After his recent stay in the hospital, Pa was particularly irritable, especially regarding food. At a nearby restaurant he stopped for a quick meal and the waiter provided a bowl of soup.

As the waiter turned away to return to the kitchen Pa stopped him, calling: "Waiter!"
"Yes ,sir, is there something wrong?"
"The soup. Taste it," replied Pa.
"I beg your pardon, Sir?"
"Taste it."
"But, Sir, I can assure you that the soup is excellent."
"Taste it," Pa persisted.
"Sir, the soup was made this morning of the finest ingredients."
"Taste it!"

The exasperated waiter finally relented. "All right, Sir, I'll taste it." Then after a pause he said, "Where is the spoon?"

To which Pa replied triumphantly, "Ah ha ...”
