Ibn Khaldun AR

The founder of the social sciences and the greatest Muslim historian, ‘Abdu-r-Rahman Wali'ud-din Muhammad ibn Khaldun, was born in Tunisia on 27 May 1332. His forefathers had migrated from Hadramawt to Seville (in Spain) in the ninth century AD and were employed by their rulers as statesmen and administrators over almost four centuries. In the thirteenth century his family was one of the ruling families of Seville. Before the end of the century Seville had been occupied by Christians, and his family had to immigrate to Tunis like most of the other noble families. read more

Don't brush your teeth immediately after meals and drinks, especially if they were acidic. Acidic foods—citrus fruits, sports drinks, tomatoes, soda (both diet and regular)—can soften tooth enamel "like wet sandstone," says Howard R. Gamble, immediate past president of the Academy of General Dentistry. Brushing your teeth at this stage can speed up acid's effect on your enamel and erode the layer underneath. Gamble suggests waiting 30 to 60 minutes before brushing.

Ingredients:
Boneless chicken (cubed) 1 kg
Salt as per taste
Garlic Paste 1 tablespoon
Whole Red Chillies 4-6
White Pepper Powder 1tablespoon
Vinegar 2-3 tablespoon
Soya Sauce 4 tablespoon
Chilli Sauce 2 tablespoon
Sugar 1 teaspoon
Chinese Salt 1 teaspoon
Tomato Paste 1 cup
Tomato Sauce 1 cup
Stock 1 cup
Cooking oil 4-6 tablespoon

Garnish:
Spring Onion (Chopped) 2 tablespoon
Carrot (Julienne) 2 tablespoon
Capsicum (Julienne) 2 tablespoon

Method:
Marinate chicken with chilli sauce, vinegar, soya sauce, salt, white pepper, sugar and Chinese salt. Keep aside for half an hour. In a pot, heat Cooking Oil on medium heat for 3-5 minutes. Saute garlic for a minute and add chicken. Golden fry the chicken on high heat and remove it from the pot. In the same pot add tomato paste, ketchup and stock. Add salt, whole red chillies and cook until thick. Add the chicken and bring to a boil. Heat a sizzler plate (easily available in shops) on medium heat for 10 minutes and pour the machurian into the hot plate.

TO ALL THE GREAT MUMS

I was out walking with my 4 year old daughter. She picked up something off the ground and started to put it in her mouth. I took the item away from her and I asked her not to do that. "Why?" my daughter asked.

"Because it's been on the ground and you don't know where it's been, it's dirty and probably has germs" I replied. At this point, my daughter looked at me with total admiration and asked, "Mummy, how do you know all this stuff? You are so smart." I was thinking quickly. "All mums know this stuff. It's on the Mummy Test. You have to know it, or they don't let you be a Mummy." We walked along in silence for 2 or 3 minutes, but she was evidently pondering this new information. "OH... I get it!" she beamed, "So if you don't pass the test you have to be the daddy." "Exactly," I replied back with a big smile on my face.
