SYMPTOMS OF WEAK FAITH

Lack of concern for Muslims and the lack of any involvement whether it be by making Du’aa’, giving charity or helping them. Such a person has a cool attitude towards the oppression, suppression and disasters suffered by his / her Muslim brothers in the other parts of the world, and is content merely with his own safety. This is the result of weak faith, because the believer is the opposite of that.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The believer’s position in relation to his fellow believers is like that of the head to the body; the believer feels the pain of his fellow believers as the body reacts to the pain suffered by the head.” (Musnad Ahmad).

Breaking the ties of relations between two people were once close. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “No two people are friends for the sake of Allaah or in Islam, but they will be split apart by the first sin (according to another report: they will only be split apart by the first sin) committed by either of them.” (al-Bukhaari).

This indicates the bad effects which may impact upon, and even destroy the bonds of brotherhood. This alienation which a man may feel between himself and his brother is a result of the lowering of faith caused by committing a sin, because Allaah causes him to lose his standing in the eyes of His servants, and so he is in the miserable position of having no respect and misses out on the fellowship of the believers and the protection of Allaah, for Allaah protects those who believe.

STEAK & POTATO PIE

Ingredients:
500gr rump steak, finely cubed
1 tsp ghee
1 tsp garlic paste
1 tsp fresh red chillies
1 tsp salt
1 tsp chilli powder
1 tsp steak & chops spice
½ tsp lemon pepper
3 tbsp vinegar
1 tbsp mustard sauce
1 tbsp chilli sauce
1 tbsp mayonnaise
2 tomatoes, liquidized
2 med potatoes cut into small cubes
Puff pastry
2 egg yolks

Tip: Alternatively one can add cheese and red chutney for a cheesy flavour.

Method:
Cook on high heat for 5 minutes, reduce heat and cook on low until tender. Boil potatoes until cooked. Combine steak and potatoes. Grease a rectangular oven proof dish. Roll out pastry to fit the base and sides of dish. Spoon cooked steak and potato mixture over pastry. Roll out more pastry and cut a rectangle to fit the top of the pie. Place pastry over filling and press sides down with your thumb. Brush with egg yolks. Take a sharp knife and cut squares deep into the pastry. Sprinkle sesame seeds and bake in a pre heated oven of 180 degree until golden brown.

THE RELIGIOUS HORSE

A courier wanted to travel across the country on a horse. He went up to a nearby farm and asked the farmer if he could buy a horse.

"The only horse I have is this one," the farmer said.

"Fine, I'll take it," the courier replied and jumped on the horse's back.

The rather religious farmer told the courier how to control the horse. "Say 'Praise the Lord' to get the horse to go and 'Amen' to get it to stop."

So with a quick "Praise the Lord," the courier was on his way. He made good time, and his mind wandered as the countryside flew by. Looking up after a while, the courier realized that a cliff was coming up, but the horse was showing no indication of slowing down. He began to panic as the cliff loomed closer, and he found he could not remember the command to stop the horse. In a real fright, the courier prayed earnestly for a reminder, and finished his prayer with "Amen."

The horse came to a screeching halt at the edge of the cliff. Looking down over the edge, the relieved courier exclaimed loudly, "Praise the Lord!"
