TOLERANCE ISN’T JUST A WORD

Umm Abdillah - Radio Islam Programming

Tolerance has become an empty epithet. Wild accusations and knee jerk reactions to every scandal have become the norm. Though forbidden in the Holy Quraan, we seem double-faced regarding this command. For example, we embrace the Prophet’s beloved Humayra (rad) as an icon for men and women worldwide, as one who had her integrity and her loyalty suspected and denigrated. Yet, she (rad) emerged a stoic, celebrated heroine. When it comes to similar accusations against our fellow beings, we don’t exercise the same morality. We understand that we must not and shall not act on emotion: yet blinded by rage and frustration we unwittingly subterfuge our judiciousness. We claim to be activists for humaneness and fairness, but we use those words cheaply and often without wisdom. The teachings of our faith espouse that we do not need to like a person or get along with them to do justice to ourselves and the teachings of our Faith in this regard. read more

A person ate a pebble, a piece of steel or some other object which is not normally eaten nor is it consumed for medicinal purposes. His fast will break but there will be no Kaffarah on him. And if he eats or drinks something that is normally consumed, his fast will break and Qada and Kaffarah will be Wajib on him.

THE SMILE

A lion woke up one morning feeling rowdy. He went out and cornered a small monkey and roared, “Who is mightiest of all jungle animals?”

The trembling monkey said, ”You are, mighty lion!”

Later, the lion confronted a deer and bellowed, “Who is mightiest of all jungle animals?”

The terrified deer stammered, ”Oh great lion, you are by far the mightiest animal in the jungle!”

On a roll, the lion swaggered up to an elephant and roared, “Who is mightiest of all jungle animals?”

The elephant snatched up the lion with his trunk, slammed him against a tree, stomped on him and then ambled away.

The battered lion hollered after the elephant, “Sheesh, just because you don’t know the answer, you don’t have to get so upset.”
