PROTECTION OF THE ENVIRONMENT

His Eminence Sheikh Abdurrahman Al-Sudais - May Allah protect him - delivered the Friday’s Khutbah titled “Protection of the Environment” in which he talked about the necessity of taking care of the environment. He presented evidence showing the Muslims’ duty in this regard, and urged them to encourage the younger generation to take care of the environment and to protect it.

O Muslims!

When we survey the sublime tenets of our Islamic sharia, our humanitarian values and their lustrous cultural implications, a global and ancient issue emerges where our pure sharia has precedence over bygone nations and communities. It has called for caring for the environment, giving it priority and care on account of its importance, magnificence and splendour.

This is - may Allah protect you - the protection of the environment, the maintenance of the vital components of life and the subservient objects of the universe. Muslim Taimi (RA) narrates from Prophet Mohammad (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) to recite the following seven times before speaking to anyone:

ALLAHUMMA AJIRNEE MINAN NAAR

"O Allah, save me from the fire (Jahannam)."

If a person recites the above Dua and dies the same night, he will be saved from Jahannam and if he recites it seven times after Fajr Salaat before speaking to anyone and if he dies on that same day, he will be saved from Jahannam.

Methibhaji Squares

Ingredients
1 cup fresh methi bhaji - 1 410g tin cream style sweet corn - 1 tsp Green chillie masala - 2 eggs - 1 onion chopped - ½ cup milk - ½ cup mealie meal - ½ cup cake flour - ½ tsp arad - 2 ½ tsps baking powder - 1 tsp salt - Sesame seeds - 1 tsp ground jeero - ½ cup oil - 1 Tbsp freshly chopped dhania – optional

Method
Wash and chop bhaji leaves and drain well. Blend ½ corn, chillies, eggs, onion and the milk together in blender. Empty this mixture into a dish. Sift all the dry ingredients into the corn mixture and mix well. Lightly stir in the Bhaji, oil and dhania. Pour mixture into a greased oven proof dish and bake in a moderate oven for about an hour or until skewer comes out clean. Cool and cut into squares and serve.

It was his first time at this convention, and on the first day he heard someone yell out the number, "34!" Everyone burst out laughing. He thought that was kind of strange. Then someone yelled out, "87," and again everyone started to laugh. This went on for quite some time. Finally, he asked a co-worker what the number calling was all about.

The co-worker replied, "We are so busy that we have a book of jokes that everyone has memorized and to save time we just yell out the number."

That night the guy went home and memorized the whole book. The next day while at work the guy yelled out, "52," and everyone just looked at him strangely.

He went back to work. Someone else yelled out the number, "68," and everyone laughed hysterically. So, he yelled out, "29," and again everyone just looked at him strangely, so he put his head down and went back to work.

Later that day at lunch, he asked the co-worker, "Why when I yelled out a number no one laughed?"

The co-worker replied "Well, you know how it is, some people can tell a joke and some people can't!"
