THE VIRTUE OF STEADFASTNESS IN OBEDIENCE TO ALLAH

His Eminence Sheikh Ali ibn Abdur-Rahman Al-Hudhaifi, may Allah preserve him, delivered the Friday Khutbah entitled, “The Virtue of Steadfastness in Obedience to Allah”, in which he talked about steadfastness in worshipping Allah, Exalted be He, and the importance of maintaining it, showing its virtue and positive effect on a Muslim’s life.

O Muslims!
Fear Allah as He should be feared, and grasp the trustworthy handhold of Islam, for Allah protects whoever fears Him and safeguards whoever trusts in Him.

Servants of Allah!
Those who take admonition and learn lessons from others are successful, those who fear Allah will be saved, but the heedless who turn away from the truth are the losers. You can learn the greatest lessons and take the best admonitions. Its scrolls of deeds have been folded up and its days have recorded whatever has been done in them. None of the past days will ever come back again until the Day of Resurrection.

Scholars have said, “Steadfastness includes all aspects of the religion and encompasses all its commands and prohibitions; it comprises doing all acts of obedience and avoiding all the forbidden ones.” When Sufyan ibn Abdullah Ath-Thaqafi, may Allah be pleased with him, once asked the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, about a comprehensive piece of advice and an all-embracing statement on the religion, the Prophet advised him to be steadfast. As reported by Muslim, Sufyan Ath-Thaqafi said, “I once said, ‘O Messenger of Allah! Tell me something concerning Islam about which I will never ask anyone else.’ He said, ‘Say, “I have believed in Allah,” and then be steadfast.’” read more

Translation: Glorified be He Who hath sudued those unto us, and we were not capable (Of subduing them); And lo! Unto our Lord we are returning. (Surah Zukhruf 13-14)

(The Ulama say that a conveyance could be a means of death. Therefore subjugation of a conveyance with gratitude towards Allah for His Mercy and death are mentioned together. After all a person has to return to Allah after death). Ali radiyallahu anhu then said Alhamdulillah three times, Allahu Akbar three times, then recited:

Translation: Glorified be Thou! Behold, I have wronged myself. So forgive thou me. Indeed, non forgiveth sins but Thou.

Then (Sayyidina Ali radiyallahu anhu) laughed (smiled). I said to him, ‘What is the reason for laughing, O Ameerul Mumineen?’ He replied, ‘Rasoolullah sallallahu alaihe wasallam also recited these duas in this manner and thereafter laughed (smiled). I also inquired from Rasoolullah sallallahu alaihe wasallam the reason for laughing (smiling) as you have asked me. Rasoolullah sallallahu alaihe wasallam said, ‘Allah Ta’ala becomes happy when His servants say, ‘No one can forgive me save You.’ My servant knows that no one forgives sins besides Me.”

* Gaza ceasefire extended by five days - Israeli and Palestinian negotiators have agreed to extend a ceasefire in Gaza for another five days after failing to reach a long term agreement in Cairo-mediated talks, Palestinian and Egyptian officials said on Wednesday.

Spinach Muffin

1 cup chana flour
½ cup cake flour
2tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
1ml cayenne pepper
1 cup spinach
1 cup grated cheddar cheese
100ml milk
100ml oil
1 egg

Stir dry ingredients together. Add spinach and grated cheese and mix slightly Beat milk, oil and eggs together and stir into dry ingredients Mix until flour is moistened batter should be lumpy. Spoon into greased muffin tins, filling each tow – thirds full. Bake in a pre-heated oven at 190C for 15 – 20 minutes.

One night at the dinner table, the wife commented, "When we were first married, you took the small piece of steak and gave me the larger. Now you take the large one and leave me the smaller. You don't love me anymore."
