The Merits of Ansar (The Helpers)

"And [fay is also for] those who established themselves in the homeland [of Madinah] and in faith before the former ones [arrived in Madinah]... have love for those who emigrated to them." 59:9)

Commentary: The second characteristic of the Helpers is described in (…have love for those who emigrated to them...59:9) The Emigrants from Makkah came to the Helpers, deprived and denuded of all their possessions. Normally, no community is willing to allow such a large number of distressed people to settle in their city. Instead, the quarrels between natives and emigrants are found everywhere. But the Ansar received them with open arms and made them equal partners in their belongings. The bond of love and brotherhood which the Messenger of Allah ~ established between the Emigrants and the Helpers, and to which this verse bears an eloquent testimony, stands unrivalled in the whole history of human relationships. There was no dearth of the Helpers who were eager to take on the Emigrants. In fact, for each Emigrant there were several applications to take him on. There were many instances in which lots had to be cast. When the lot of a particular Helper fell in favour of a particular Emigrant, he was handed to him. [Mazhari]

Ingredients :
1kg tenderised steak – cut into pieces
1 tsp salt
1 tsp fine red chillies
1 tsp ground green chillies
½ tsp ground black pepper
½ cup tomato sauce
2 tbsp ground garlic
2 tbsp vinegar
¼ cup oil
4 – 5 tbsp mayonnaise

Method :
Mix all the ingredients together and marinate steak overnight. Place steak in an oven tray and cover with foil. Place in 200 degree preheated oven for 20 minutes. Turn steak and lower heat to 160 degrees. Cover with foil again and bake for a further 20 minutes. Remove foil and grill for 5 – 10 minutes on each side. Brush with ghee and serve with garlic potatoes. Alternately – braai the steak.

A CURE FOR HICCUPS

A woman with hiccups went to the doctor’s office where she was seen by one of the new doctors. After about 4 minutes in the examination room, she burst out, screaming as she ran down the hall. An older doctor stopped her and asked what the problem was, and she told him her story.

After listening, he had her sit down in another room and told her to relax. The older doctor marched down hallway to the back where the first doctor was and demanded, "What's the matter with you? Mrs. Terry is 63 years old, she has four grown children and seven grandchildren, and you told her she was pregnant?"

The new doctor calmly continued to write on his clipboard and without looking up said, "Does she still have the hiccups?"
