Surah At-Talaq (The Divorce)
This Surah was revealed in Madinah, and it has 12 verses and 2 sections

In the Name of Allah, The Beneficent, The Most Merciful

A man of vast means should spend according to his vast means. And anyone whose sustenance is limited should spend from whatever Allah has given to him...65:7)

COMMENTARY: In other words, in determining the quantum of the divorced wife's maintenance the financial position of the husband will be taken into account. If the husband is wealthy, he should spend on his divorcee according to his affluence; and if he is indigent, he should spend according to his limited resources - even if the wife is wealthy. [Tafseer Mazhari]

Allah makes no one liable beyond what He has given to him. Allah will soon bring ease after a difficulty....65:7)

This is an elaboration of the preceding statement, in that Allah does not demand from anyone more than what he can afford. Therefore, if the husband is indigent, it is incumbent upon him to provide for her according to his level of indigence at that time. The wife, on the other hand, is advised to be content, for the time being, with the amount of sustenance her indigent husband is able to provide. She should not think that the present state of indigence will last for all times to come, because ease and difficulty are in the hands of Allah, and as such He can change indigence into affluence.

Special Note: The verse under comment bears an indication that Allah will create a condition of ease for husbands who try to provide for their wives the obligatory amount of sustenance to the best of their ability, and are not in the habit of keeping their wives under straitened circumstances. The subject of God Almighty is the most noble of all subjects. This should be the ultimate concern of all human beings. This series of discussions attempts to understand God The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful, according to the Islamic Doctrine.

Shaikh Umar Farooq Abdullah and Shaikh Hamza Yusuf, in their introduction to this incredible series, emphasised that the essence of knowledge is in the discovery of our Creator, Lord of all. Moreover, the importance of making our knowledge meaningful was the supreme legacy of Islamic civilisation and it remains our task today. They explained further that every religion is founded upon direct experience of Allah Almighty.

In this part, Sh Hamza described the visits of Muhammad Sallallahu`Alayhi Wa Sallam to the Cave of Hira. By secluding himself in the cave, Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu`Alayhi Wa Sallam was removing himself from the world, what we would call today meditation. He was in a contemplative state with a desire to empty his soul of all forms because the soul has to be cleansed of all forms before it can have knowledge of The One who has no forms; Allah The Ever-Living, The Everlasting.

There is great significance of the actual squeeze of Muhammad Sallallahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam by the arch angel Jibra`eel AS. The squeezing of any remnants of the world out of his soul as he, Sallallahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam, was soon to be filled with three vessels viz. Imaan, Islam and Ihsaan. This is Part 1… Listen

There was this burglary and the main burglar shouted to all the bank employees: “Nobody move, money belongs to the government, life belongs to you”.

Everyone in the bank laid down quietly.

This is called “Mind Changing Concept –> Changing the conventional way of thinking”.

When the burglars got back, the younger burglar (MBA) told the older burglar (who is only primary school educated), “Bro, let’s count how much we got”, the older burglar rebutted and said, “You very stupid, so much money, how to count, tonight TV will tell us how much we robbed from the bank!”

This is called “Experience –> sometimes experience is more important than paper qualifications!”

After the burglars left, the bank manager told the bank supervisor to call the police quickly. The supervisor says “Wait, wait wait, let’s put the 10 million pounds we embezzled into the amount the burglars robbed”.

This is called “Swim with the tide –> converting an unfavorable situation to your advantage!”

The next day, TV news reported that 50 million pounds was taken from the bank. The burglars counted and counted and counted, but they could only count 20 million pounds. The burglars were very angry and complained “We risked our lives and only took 20 million pounds, the bank manager took 30 million pounds with a snap of his fingers. It looks like it is better to be educated to be a thief!”

This is called “Knowledge is worth as much as gold!”
