Tricks of the Base Self
There are acts whose sinful nature is obvious to everyone. The selfish desires prompting to such sinful acts may be suppressed by one's deliberate efforts and firm resolution. However, there are evils prompted by one's base self even during his acts of worship and other good deeds, such as self-conceit, ('Ujb) vanity, (Kibr), and show off (Riya'). These are such sins whose sinful nature is often not discoverable to a common person, still they are very severe and firmly ingrained evil desires of one's base self. One is at times deceived by them, because he continues to think that his actions are right. It is extremely necessary that first and foremost this lower self must be suppressed. But this cannot be achieved by one on his own. It is necessary for one to search for a perfect spiritual master (Ash-shaikhul-kamil), and hand himself over to him for guidance. He acts as the authentic guide and the only one to whom a seeker of Truth should turn in his quest and follow his advice. In turning to the spiritual master, the seeker is turning to Allah Almighty. The shaikh engages him in the spiritual struggle and endeavour [mujahadah] against the passions and tendencies of the lower self ['uyub-un-nafs]. TO BE CONTINUED...

Prawn cocktail crisp to decorate

Method:
Melt ¼ lb butter in pot and braise cubed peppers, sweetcorn kernels, add cleaned prawn. Add 1 ½ tsp crushed chilli, 1 tsp chilli powder, salt to taste. Close pot and leave to steam until quiet dry +- 30min. Braise noodles with ¼ lb butter and 1 tsp chilli powder , salt to taste and ¼ cup vinegar. Braise well and add to prawn mixture. Decorate with fresh dhunia or parsley and prawn cocktail crisp.

A female truck driver decided to buy herself a big dog for protection while she was on the road. She went to the local animal shelter and asked about one particularly large and fierce looking dog and the attendant told her, "He doesn't like men."

Perfect, she thought, and so she bought him. Later that week, she was in a dark parking lot and two big, rough looking men started walking toward her. Sure enough, as the attendant at the animal shelter had told her, the dog didn't like men. He promptly ran and cowered under the nearest car.
