From amongst the first 10 days of Zul Hijjah is a very special day known as Yaum - ul - Arafah which falls on the day before Eid - i.e. the 9th of Zul Hijjah. When Nabi (salallahu alaihi wasalam) was asked about the fast of this day, he said: “It compensates for the minor sins of the previous year and the forth coming year.” (Muslim, Tirmidhi & Ibn Majah)

Allahu Akbar! One day of fasting yet so much forgiveness! In fact it gets even better. Rasullullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) also said, “Apart from the day of the Battle of Badr, there is no day on which the Shaytaan is seen to be more humiliated, more rejected, more depressed and more infuriated, than on the day of Arafah, and indeed all this is only because of witnessing the abundance of mercy descending (on that day) and Allah’s forgiveness of the great sins of His servants.” (Mishkaat)

Have you ever felt like getting rid of Shaytaan, just shunning him away for a change? He’s done so much to lead us astray, well here’s our chance – we’ve found out exactly how to anger him, annoy and infuriate him. He feels so depressed on this day for he knows it’s a day wherein people change their lives - they reap Allah’s mercy, attract His compassion and secure His forgiveness.

Finally, Nabi (salallahu alaihi wasalam) said: “There is no day in which Allah sets free more souls from the fire of hell than on the day of Arafah; and on that day Allah (Subhanahu watala) draws near to the earth and, by way of exhibiting his pride, remarks to the angels, “What is the desire of these servants of mine?” (Muslim)

So, whether we are on the plain of Arafah or sat in our very own homes if we ask, Allah (Aza wajal) will give. Ask for the goodness of this world and, more so, ask Allah to guide you to live a righteous life so that you may experience the goodness of the hereafter too.

SPINACH AND CHEESE CORN PIES

Ingredients
1 bunch spinach - 1 chopped onion - Salt & Pepper to taste - 2 tblsp butter - ½ cup whole kernel corn - ½ cup grated cheese - use strong cheddar.

Method
Saute onion with butter. Add spinach corn and salt & pepper. Cook until done. Add cheese just before filling pies.

Wife: I hate that beggar!!!
