The Prophet (sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) has said: "The best fasts after the fasts of Ramadhan are those of the month of Muharram." Nabi (sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) was asked with regard to the blessings of this fast, he replied:" It is a compensation for the sins of the past year." i.e. Allah will forgive the sins of the past year." (Muslim, Vol 1). Abu Qataada (radhiyallahu anhu) has related that the Prophet (sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) has reported to have said, It is my thought that by fasting on the 10th of Muharram Allah Ta'ala will pardon the sins of the past year." (Tirmizi). Note: For the forgiveness of major sins Taubah and Istighfaar is a pre-requisite.
GENEROSITY TO ONE'S FAMILY: Some traditions signify another feature of the day of ''Ashurah. According to these traditions one should be more generous to his family by providing more food to them on this day as compared to other days. It is mentioned in a Hadeeth: "He who will be generous to his family on the day of Aashura, Allah will be generous to him for the entire year."
EVENTS OF MUHARRAM: -
1. Sayyidina Hussain (RA), the grandson of Rasullullah (sallahu alaiyhi wassallam) was martyred in this month in Karbala.
2. Shaykhain Tirmizi and Haakim have narrated from Anas (radhiyallahu anhu) that the following verse: "Allah may forgive thee of thy sins that which is past and that which is to come.” (Al-Fath) was revealed on the 10th of Muharram.
3. Prophet Muhammed (sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) went to defeat Bani Muhaarin and Bani Tha'laba (Tribes of Bani Gatfan) in the month of Muharram in the year 4 A.H. (Asahhus-siyar)
AASHOORAA'
IN HISTORY
Ibn Abbaas (RA) said: The Prophet (sallahu alaiyhi wassallam) came to
Madeenah and saw the Jews fasting on the day of Aashooraa'. He said, what
is this?' They said, this is a righteous day, it is the day when Allaah
saved the Children of Israel from their enemies, so Moosa fasted on this
day.' He said, We have more right to Moosa than you,' so he fasted on
that day and commanded [the Muslims] to fast on that day. (Reported by
al-Bukhaari, 1865).
This
is a righteous day in a report narrated by Muslim, [the Jews said:] This
is a great day, on which Allaah saved Moosa and his people, and drowned
Pharaoh and his people.Moosa fasted on this day a report narrated by Muslim
adds: in thanksgiving to Allaah, so we fast on this day. According to
a report narrated by al-Bukhaari: so we fast on this day to venerate it.
A version narrated by Imaam Ahmad adds: "This is the day on which
the Ark settled on Mount Joodi, so Nooh fasted this day in thanksgiving."
Moulana Mohsin Saber explained that Muharram is a special month commemorating Allah Ta’ala’s deliverance of Moosa AS from the tyranny of Fir’own. A month in which Rasulullah Sallallahu`Alayhi Wa Sallam instructed his Sahabah RA to fast, not just on the 10th of Muharram, but either 9th and 10th or 10th and 11th of Muharram in honour of Moosa AS.
Moulana touched on the trials of Moosa
AS and mentioned some lessons we can derive from it. The first lesson;
just as Moosa AS was rewarded after remaining patient and steadfast in
carrying out the Command of Allah despite the adverse conditions, so too
would we be rewarded if we do the same.
The second lesson; Moosa AS placed his complete trust in his Lord and
handed his affairs to his Lord, Allah Ta’ala became his Guardian.
If we do the same, Allah will take care of our matters.
Third lesson; Moosa AS happily underwent great difficulty for Allah’s
sake because of his love for Allah. We too, need to make concerted efforts
to imbibe the love of Allah in our hearts, obeying Allah then would be
easier…

Sayyadina Abu Saeed 'Al-Khudriy said: A small number of the companions of the Prophet took off in one of their journeys till they reached an Arab tribe. Then they asked hospitality of them, whereupon, they refused to show them hospitality. The chief of the town was soon after bitten [by a scorpion or a snake]. They sought everything for him; however nothing did him any good. Then a few of them said: Why don't you go to that group of men that have taken lodging over there? Perhaps some of them might have something [for it]. So they went to them and said: O' you folk, our chief has been stung and we tried everything but nothing did him any good, so does anyone of you have something [to treat him with]? One of them then said: By Allah I charm (cure spells); however, by Allah we asked you to show us hospitality, and you refused, so I am not going to charm for you until you set an agreed upon price. They then reconciled over a flock of sheep. Then the man set off blowing on him [on the chief], and reciting…
'Al-hamdu lil-lãhi rabbil ãlameena’... to the end (SURAH FATIHA).
It was then as if he had been set free after having been all tied up, he started walking without any pain. [He said:] So they gave them what they had agreed upon. Some of them (or one of them) then said: Split [the flock], the charmer then said: No do not, not until we come upon the Messenger of Allah and tell him about what happened [we will see what he orders]. So they came to the Messenger of Allah and told him, he then said: "And what makes you know it to be a charm?" Then he said: "You have struck correctly, so do split [the flock] and cast me a share along with you." The Prophet then smiled.

* Syria opposition appeals for massive aid - The Syrian opposition has said it will need $60b in aid to prevent the country's economy from collapsing if it takes power from President Bashar al-Assad's regime.
* Gaza ceasefire goes into effect - A ceasefire has gone into effect in and around the Gaza Strip, after Israel and Hamas agreed to cease hostilities.
Ingredients
125grm butter
¼ cup castor sugar
1 up flour
¼ tsp baking powder
2 tblsp cocoa powder
1 cup dessicated coconut
2 tblsp water
Chocolate spread, dessicated coconut metallic dust to decorate
Method
1.
Cream butter and sugar till light and fluffy
2. Add sifted flour, baking powder, cocoa and coconut mix to a dough
3. Add water and knead to a soft dough
4. Turn onto a floured surface and roll out thinly
5. Cut out fancy shapes and place on a greased baking sheet
6. Bake at 180 for about 10 mins
7. Spread biscuit tops with chocolate and decorate.

I picked up one of those "Dividers" that they keep by the cash register and placed it between our things so they wouldn't get mixed together.
After the cashier had scanned all of my items, he picked up the "Divider" looked it all over for the bar code so he could scan it.
Not finding the bar code, he said to me "Do you know how much this is?"
I said to him, "I've changed my mind, I don't think I'll buy that today."
He said "OK" and I paid him for the things and left.
