The Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) praised him by saying: "Bless our horseman, Abu Qataadah". The Prophet (Peace be upon him), then supplicated for him by saying: "O Lord, bless his perception and his happiness". He then said to him: "May your honour prosper".

Abu Qataadah said to him: "May your honour thrive, O Messenger of Allah". When Abu Qataadah was stricken in his face, the Prophet (Peace be upon him) spit and he recovered.

He led several detachments. Of them, one of fifteen men that reached the Nejd, capturing two hundred camels, two thousand sheep and taking prisoners as well. At the time of the Battle of Hunain, Abu Qataadah left with the Prophet (Peace be upon him) and killed a man that intended inequity upon the Muslims. A man came with the dead enemies armour. He was disarmed and divested of the armour.

Abu Qataadah contested in law as far as the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him), who judged by it. He purchased with its value an orchard, which was the first property he acquired in Islam.

Salaah for Rain

When there is a need for water and there are no rains, then at such a time it is Sunnah to make Dua and ask Allah Ta'ala for rains.

The Mustahab method of making Dua for rains is as follows: all the Muslims should get together with their children, elderly people and animals, and walk towards the outskirts of the town in a very helpless and humble way, while at the same time wearing very simple clothing. They should renew their repentence, fulfil the rights of those upon whom certain rights are due.

They should then offer two Rakaats of Salaah with congregation without any Adhaan or Iqaamah. The Imaam should recite the Salaah in a loud voice. He should then deliver two Khutbahs just as they are delivered on Eid day. The Imaam should then stand up facing the Qiblah and raise his hands and make Dua to Allah Ta'ala for rains. All those present should also make Dua.

This should be done for three consecutive days and not more than that because this has not been established in the Shariah. If the rains begin to fall before they can go out to the jungle, or after offering this Salaah for one day - even then the three days should be completed. It is Mustahab to fast on these three days. It is also Mustahab to give something in charity before going.

Ingredients:
5 jumbo eggs
125ml (1/2 cup) oil
5ml (1tsp) vanilla essence
250ml (1cup) cake flour
20ml (4 tsp) baking powder
45-50ml (3 heaped Tbsp) cocoa
200g (1cup) sugar
187.5m (+- 3/4 cup) hot water
200g slab chocolate and 1 tin (155g) dessert cream for decoration

Method:
Separate eggs and whisk egg whites with 1 teapoon baking powder until soft peaks form. In a separate bowl whisk yolks, oil and essence. In another bowl mix sifted flour, 3 teaspoons baking powder, cocoa and sugar. Add hot water to sifted dry ingredients and mix thoroughly. Blend together yolk - oil mixture with flour - water mixture till smooth consistency. Gently folk in egg whites last. Pour mixture into a chiffon ring pan. (Do not grease the pan) bake at 180c for 35 minutes. Remove from the oven and turn pan upside down (cake will stick to the bottom); and allow hanging cake to cool. Once cooler remove from pan and place cake on plate. Melt the chocolate in microwave and vigorously stir in the desert cream to a smooth consistency. Decorate cake by pouring the chocolate sauce over the cake.

Hint: Dip knife in hot water to cut neat slices of cake.
