WHY
ALLAH MENTIONS SIN BEFORE PIETY

Knowledge is that which opens the way to Allah And the road is that which leads to Allah.
The Aim of Life - What is the aim of coming to this world? Man is the noblest of creation. We therefore have to ask Allah, why He sent us to this world. Ask the Creator of life what the aim of our life is. The Creator of life says, "He created death and life to test you by seeing who is the best in action."
The Reason for mentioning Death First - I am mentioning death first because the one who keeps death in front of him will be successful. The one who knows that he has to face Allah, does not lead a free life like an animal. He will not commit any sins. This indicates that the aim of coming into this world is to please Allah.
The Wisdom of Inspiring Evil and Piety - Allah, says that He kept two substances in man to test him. He inspired the soul with its evil and its piety. (Al Qur'an, Surah As-Shams.)
We have created the substance of sin in you so that you can commit sins. You will have a great urge to sin. We have also given you the substance of piety and fear. Whichever side you desire, you can strengthen by rubbing it. There are two edges to every match. Until you don't rub the sides, it will not burn. Therefore, Allah, has not been oppressive by placing the substance of sin within us. If your pocket has matches, does it burn the pocket? Fire is only produced by rubbing. Similarly, the Nafs [The carnal self which prompts one to sin] has sin on one side and piety on the other. If you mix with immoral people, the substance of disobedience will be rubbed together. This will produce the fire of sin. And if you stay with the saints, the substance of obedience will be rubbed together, thereby illuminating the light of piety.
The Wisdom of Mentioning Sin before Piety - I once travelled with a learned scholar many years ago. He recited this Surah in Fajr Salah. After Salah I asked him why disobedience was mentioned first? Why did Allah, mention a filthy thing first? Disobedience is a vile thing. A good thing should have been mentioned first? The scholar asked me to answer the question myself. I replied that Mauquf Alaih (the pre-final year) comes first and then the final year. Had Allah, not kept the material for disobedience, piety would not have existed.
Taqwa means that one has the urge to disobey and one prevents oneself from doing so. One undergoes the pangs of not sinning. This grief creates the light of piety. Had there been no substance of disobedience, then one would not have prevented the Nafs from desires. Allah, says, "He prevented the Nafs from desires."
The one who does this is pious and entitled to enter Paradise. When one has to prevent desires, the existence of desires is essential. If I say, "Do not look at the glasses in my hand," while there are no glasses in my hand, the statement will be futile. If there are glasses, then the statement will be valid. This indicates that every prohibition necessitates the existence of the prohibited substance. If the prohibited substance is absent, the prohibition becomes null and void. And the words of Allah, are pure. Therefore, the existence of desires is essential. Allah, says, "He prevented the nafs from desires." Our special servants prevent their souls from becoming embroiled in desires. They endure the grief of abstention because the nature and food of the Nafs is sin.
Due to this, piety is being created. Had the substance of disobedience been absent, no one could have become pious.

Ingredients:
750ml (3 cups) cake flour
375ml (1 1/2 cups) sugar
125g butter
20ml (1 1/2 Tbsp) fine ginger
7.5g (1 1/2 pkt) cream of tartar
7.5g (1/2pkt) bicarbonate of soda
2 eggs
125g (1/2 small tin) golden syrup
Method:
Melt butter, sugar and golden syrup slowly on medium heat. Stir occasionally
until butter has been melted completely, and allow mixture to cool. Sift
flour with ginger, bicarbonate of soda and cream of tartar. Add cooled
butter - sugar mixture to flour mixture and mix slightly. Add eggs one
at a time and mix thoughly after each addition. Make small balls (approximately
the size of a R 5 coin) and place in a baking tray. Place flaked almond
on each ball and bake at 180c until biscuit has flattened and browned.
Store cooled biscuits in a tin. Storing in a plastic container will result
in biscuits going soft quickly.

An office manager was given the task of hiring an individual to fill a job opening. After sorting through a stack of resumes he found four people who were equally qualified. He decided to call the four in and ask them only one question. Their answer would determine which of them would get the job.
The day came and as the four sat around the conference room table the interviewer asked: "What is the fastest thing you know of?"
Acknowledging the first man, on his right, the man replied,"A THOUGHT. It just pops into your head. There's no warning that it's on the way; it's just there. A thought is the fastest thing I know of." "That's very good!" replied the interviewer.
"And now you sir?" he asked the second man.
"Hmm....let me see. A blink! It comes and goes and you don't know that it ever happened. A BLINK is the fastest thing I know of." "Excellent!" said the interviewer. "The blink of an eye... that's a very popular cliche? for speed."
He then turned to the third man who was contemplating his reply. "Well, out at my dad's FARM, you step out of the house and on the wall there's a light switch. When you flip that switch & way out across the pasture the light in the barn comes on in less than an ant. TURNING ON A LIGHT is the fastest thing I can think of. "The interviewer was very impressed with the third answer and thought he had found his man. "It's hard to beat the speed of light" He said.
Turning to the fourth and final man, the interviewer posed the same question. It's obvious to me that the fastest thing known is DIARRHEA."
"WHAT!?" said the interviewer, stunned by the response. "Oh I can explain." said the fourth man. "You see the other day I wasn't feeling so good and I ran for the bathroom. But, before I could THINK, BLINK, or TURN ON THE LIGHT, I had already messed my pants!"
