THE STORY |
TASTE
THE GIFT
------------------
According
to legend, a young man while roaming the desert came across
a spring of delicious crystal-clear water. The water was
so sweet he filled his leather canteen so he could bring
some back to a tribal elder who had been his teacher. After
a four-day journey he presented the water to the old man
who took a deep drink, smiled warmly and thanked his student
lavishly for the sweet water. The young man returned to
his village with a happy heart.
Later, the teacher let another student taste the water.
He spat it out, saying it was awful. It apparently had become
stale because of the old leather container. The student
challenged his teacher: "Master, the water was foul.
Why did you pretend to like it?"
The teacher replied, "You only tasted the water. I
tasted the gift. The water was simply the container for
an act of living-kindness and nothing could be sweeter."
Self-motivation without gratitude is impossible. Our energy
is "sapped" when our entire focus is on what's
wrong instead of what is right with our lives. One of our
greatest challenges is to live and love in spite of pain
and disappointment...to find gratitude in the midst of it
all.
Reflect for a moment on this beautiful quote from Melody
Beattie:
"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what
we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance,
chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal
into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend.
Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today,
and creates a vision for tomorrow."

SUNNAH
(PRACTISES OF MUHAMMAD SAW) |
When
yawning, it is Sunnah to prevent it as far as possible. (Bukhari).
If the mouth cannot be kept closed despite making an effort
to do so, then place the back of the left hand over the mouth.
While yawning, any sound should not be allowed to emanate
as this is forbidden in the hadith. (Bukhari - Vol.2, pg.919,
Muslim - Vol.2, pg. 412, 413) |

RECIPE |
FRESH
CREAM APRICOT TURNOVERS
---------------------------------
INGREDIENTS
2 and ½ cups of flour 3 times - 1 and ½ tsp baking
powder (sifted into the flour) - 250g butter- take out from
the freezer and allow to sit for 10 / 15 minutes - 125 ml
fresh cream with ½ tsp of vanilla essence - Smooth apricot
jam (beaten in a bowl) ,2 egg whites (gently whisked) any
left eggs whites.
METHOD
Grate the butter into the flour. Rub to form breadcrumbs.
Pour into pieces that you are able to manage and roll till
slightly thin. Using a glass with a diameter of 6cm cut
circles into the dough by pressing down on the glass. Remove
and set on some wax wrap.
When
one batch is completed (batch remaining enough to fill a
baking tray) gently rub egg whites around the inner rim
of the biscuit. Spoon ½ tsp of gently beaten apricot jam
(beat in a bowl with a fork) in the centre. Do not overfill,
as they will ooze out when baking – about 10 of mine did
that!
Place
on a baking tray and pop into a pre-heated oven marked 16
for approx 15 minutes. Depending on your oven, you may prefer
baking it on a temperature. It should be an ivory golden
brown, and not too dark. Remove and set aside on a wire
to cool.
Once
all the biscuits are completely cooled roll around in some
castor sugar till well coated. Plate or set aside on a wire
rack to cool.
Once
all the biscuits are completely cooled roll around in some
castor sugar till well coated. Plate or package up.
N.B
this treats don’t keep well, so they’re best eaten super
quick.

HEALTH TIPS |
MOVE
MORE
-------------
Make it a daily challenge to find ways to move your body.
Climb stairs if given a choice between that and escalators
or elevators. Walk your dog; chase your kids; toss balls
with friends, mow the lawn. Anything that moves your limbs
is not only a fitness tool, it's a stress buster.
Think
'move' in small increments of time. It doesn't have to be
an hour in the gym or a 45-minute aerobic lesson class or
tai chi or kickboxing. Cha, Cha, Cha…. Then do it!

A THOUGHT |
I
AM WRONG
------------
Admit to your staff when you have made a wrong decision,
because chances are they already know. Not being able to
say when you are wrong diminishes your effectiveness in
the work place.
Managers
who narrow in on the blame and refuse to admit that they
are wrong are viewed by their employees as weak and dishonest.
Eventually, employees lose respect for the manager and good
workers move on. People openly respect a person when they
are big enough to admit that they erred in some way or another.

THE
WALKING ECONOMY
------------------------
This guy is walking with his friend, who happens to be a psychologist.
He says to this friend, "I'm a walking economy."
The
friend asks, "How so?"
"My
hair line is in recession, my stomach is a victim of inflation,
and both of these together are putting me into a deep depression!"
