Surah
Al-Qiyamah: 75 - (The Resurrection)
This Surah is Makki. It contains 40 verses and 2 sections
With the name of Allah, the All-Merciful, the Very-Merciful
I
swear by the Day of Resurrection, [1]
and I swear by the self-reproaching conscience, (that Resurrection
is a reality.) [2]
Does man think that We will never reassemble his bones? [3]
COMMENTARY:
The complement or subject of oath is contextually understood
- the Day of Resurrection is a reality and it shall come to
pass.
The
object of oath in verse [1] is to affirm and emphasize the
importance of the subject about which an oath is taken. In
this instance, it is the Resurrection.
In
verse [2], the object of oath is to lay emphasis on the importance
of self¬reproaching conscience and its acceptability in the
sight of Allah. The word Nafs means 'soul' or 'life' and the
word lawwamah is derived from lawm signifying 'reproach or
upbraid'. The phrase refers to the human conscience that upbraids
him for doing bad deeds. It upbraids him not only for doing
bad deeds, but also for doing good deeds - 'why did you not
do more good, and attain higher stages [of development]?'
In
short, a perfect believer reproaches and upbraids himself
all the time whether doing good or bad. His reproaching himself
for bad deeds is quite understandable, but why should he reproach,
blame or criticize himself for good deeds? He should try to
reach for higher goals in life by doing better deeds. He upbraids
himself for missing out on that score. This interpretation
is reported from Sayyidna Ibn 'Abbas . and other leading authorities
on Tafslr [IbnKathir and others].

THE MESSAGE |
FAMILY
GET-TOGETHERS
by Sheikh Muhammed Salih Al-Munajjid
-----------------------
Creating opportunities for meetings to discuss family matters.
“…and who (conduct)
their affairs by mutual consultation…” [al-Shoora]
42:38 –
This
is a time when the family members can sit together in a
suitable place to talk about issues within and without the
family that affect them. This is a sign of strong ties,
interaction and cooperation within the family. No doubt
the man is the one whom Allaah has appointed to be in charge
of his “flock’s” affairs and he is primarily responsible
and is the decision maker, but giving room to others to
contribute – especially when the children get older – is
good training for them to learn to bear responsibility,
as well as giving everyone the confidence of knowing that
his or her opinion is valued when they are asked to express
their points of view.
Examples
of this are discussions concerning going for Hajj or for
‘Umrah during Ramadaan, and other trips, travelling to visit
relatives and uphold family ties, or for vacations; organizing
weddings and ‘aqeeqahs for newborns; moving from one home
to another; and
charitable projects such as finding out about the poor people
in one's neighbourhood so the family can offer help or send
food to them.
Families
can also discuss problems faced by themselves or by relatives,
and talk about how to solve them, and so on… It is worth
pointing out here that there is another important kind of
family meeting, which is holding frank discussions between
parents and children. Some of the problems of adolescence
can only by solved by one-on-one conversations between parents
and children, where a father talks, calmly and quietly,
with his son about matters that have to do with the problems
of youth and the Islamic rulings pertaining to adolescence,
and a mother talks to her daughter and tells her what she
needs to know about Islamic rulings and helps her to solve
the problems that she may face at this age..
The
father or mother may open the discussion with words such
as “When I was your age…” This will have a great effect
in making what they say acceptable to the youngster. Lack
of such frank discussions will force the children to talk
to bad companions, which leads to so many other evils..

A THOUGHT |
OUR
HEART THAT NEVER TIRES
------------------------------
For us, our heart is an essential organ. It beats about seventy-two
times per minute and about forty million times per year. To
understand what a tiring activity this is, just make a fist
with your hand and then relax it, and continue making a fist
and relaxing it. How many minutes do you think you will be
able to keep this up?
Your
heart, which is about the size of your fist, continues this
action throughout your life without becoming tired or even
stopping once. Our hearts don’t stop even while we are asleep.
If we become excited, our heart beats faster, and it beats
slower while we rest. Our heart makes all these adjustments
automatically while we are totally unaware.
Every time our heart beats, it pumps blood around our bodies.
What we need to survive is in this blood. Every one of our
cells receives the necessary oxygen and food they need from
the blood. Our heart pumps about 43,000 litres (approx. 11,000
gallons) of blood per day. Do you know just how much blood
this means? This is about enough to fill 150 bathtubs. Wouldn’t
you become tired if you tried to empty a single bathtub full
of water with just a cup? Now imagine having to empty 150
bathtubs of water with just a single cup. Probably you wouldn’t
have been able to accomplish such a difficult task. However,
our heart does such a task and has done so since the day we
were born and will continue to do so until the day we die.
Moreover, it never takes a break. You, for example, would
take a break while doing a difficult chore. You would probably
need to lie down, or take a rest, but our hearts don’t become
tired, because they are essential for our survival. It is
small but its task is enormous. This is why Allah has created
it in such a way that it never tires.
