THE FRIDAY KHUTBAH (SERMON)
STANDING FIRM in OBEYING ALLAH
by Imâm al-Madîna al-Munawarrah 'Abdul Muhsin Ibn Muhammad al-Qâsim
--------------------------------------------------------------------

All praise is due to Allaah, Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon the Messenger, his household and companions.

Brothers in faith! Fear Allaah and be dutiful to Him. That is the admonition of Allaah to His slaves and admonition of His Messenger to his nation.

Fellow Muslims! Allaah has facilitated for His slaves the ways to blessings and He alone controls the days and months. He makes the night enter into the day and makes the day enter into the night. He created the cause for everything, makes a decree for every matter, and a reckoning for every deed. He also made this world like a marketplace where people go back and forth; some selling themselves and some freeing themselves. Days are but parts and stages of one’s life. The passage of each day reduces one’s lifespan, brings one closer to death and brings the record of one’s deeds to a gradual end.

Fellow Muslims! Some blessed days have just passed in which you have spent another phase of your life. Let those who have done righteousness thank Allaah and keep it up and let those who have done wrong turn to Allaah in repentance and do good deeds. Imaam Ahmad was asked, ‘When will there be rest?’ He answered, ‘After putting the first foot into the Paradise.’

There is a bliss and happiness for the righteous people in continuous acts of worship. The Messenger of Allaah said, “The best of all people is the one whose life is long and does good deeds.”

As there are signs that indicate the acceptance of righteous deeds, there are also signs that indicate the insincerity in repentance. The sign of a bad deed is to commit another bad deed after it. Therefore, follow up a good deed with another, it will complement it, becomes a sign for its acceptance and get the mind used to it. Also, follow up evil deed with a good one so as to make it a remedy for it and as a protection against its repercussions. Allaah says, “The good deeds remove the evil deed. That is a reminder (an advice) for the mindful.” (Hood 11:114).

The Messenger of Allaah said, “Fear Allaah wherever you are, follow up an evil deed with a good one it will remove it and deal with people kindly.”

Standing firm in acts of obedience and constantly abiding by commandments of Allaah are the characteristics of the believing slaves of Allaah. read more

DUA/PRAYER
Mounting Means of Transportation
----------------------------------
Ali bin Rabee`ata said: I witnessed Ali bin Abi Tãib when he was given a beast of burden to mount, just when he put his foot in the mount he said: In the name of Allah [ Bismillahi ], then when he had ascended upon its back, he said: All praise be to Allah [ Al-hamdu lil-lãh ], then he said: Subhãnal-lathee sakh-khara lanã hãthã wa mã kunnã lahu muqrineena. Wa'innã 'lã rabbinã lamunqaliboona. Then he said Al-hamdu lil-lãhi 3 times, then he said: 'Allãhu 'akbaru, 3 times, then he said: Subhãnaka 'allãhumma 'inne thalamtu nafsee, faghfirlee, fa'innahu lã yaghfiruth-thunooba 'illã 'anta… Glory be to Him who has availed this to our use, for we were not bound to it. And to our Lord surely we will be returning.

Then he smiled, so he was asked: O' Commander of the faithful! Why did you smile? He said: I saw the Prophet do as I have done, then he smiled, so I asked him: O' Messenger of Allah! Why do you smile? He said "Your Lord Glorified and Exalted is He, admires when one of His bondservants says: Lord forgive me my sins, he knows that no one else forgives sins besides Me [Allah]".

RECIPE

Mango Yoghurt
---------------

2 large mangoes - 2 cups low fat yoghurt - 4-6 tsp Castor sugar.

Method
Wash and peel the mangoes. Cut the flesh into small cubes – you should have 2 cups. Thicken the yoghurt a little by draining through a colander lined with a muslin cloth, for about 10 minutes. Reserve ½ cup mango. Process the rest of the mango. Thickened yoghurt and castor sugar in a blender till smooth. Stir in the reserved mango. Pour into 6 individual bowls and chill till firm.

COOKING TIP
Cottage cheese will remain fresher longer if you store it upside down in the refrigerator. This slows the effects of oxidation.

A THOUGHT
When Talking to Children
-------------------------

When speaking to your children, say what you mean, mean what you say, but don't be mean when you say it.

THE SMILE

APPLICATION REJECTED
---------------------
M
y wife received a credit-card application in the mail that she had not requested. She didn't want it, but I did. So I crossed off my wife's name on the form, entered my own and returned the application. I soon got a phone call from a woman saying my application had been rejected.

I asked her why, and she told me the card could only be issued to the person originally solicited by the offer. However, she invited me to reapply, which I did during the same telephone call.

A few days later I got another call to tell me my second application had been rejected.

Why? The woman told me their files showed that I had previously applied for a card and had been denied.
