AD-DAHR: 76 - (The Time)
With the name of Allah, the All-Merciful, the Very-Merciful
We
have prepared for the disbelievers shackles and iron-collars
and a blazing Fire. [4]
Indeed, the righteous will have a drink from a goblet, blended
with (a drink from) Camphor [5]
COMMENTARY:
After the description of the two groups, the next verse describes
the punishment and evil consequences of the disbelievers.
Allah has prepared, for the disbelievers, shackles and iron-collars
and a blazing Fire. On the other hand, huge bounties are mentioned
for the believers and righteous people. Out of these bounties,
drinkables are mentioned first. They will have a drink from
a goblet, blended with (a drink from) Camphor.
(The
righteous will have a drink from a goblet, blended with [a
drink from] Camphor 76:5). Some of the commentators say that
KAAFOOR (Camphor) refers to a fountain in Paradise. In order
to enhance the taste and pleasure of this drink, it will be
mixed with water from this spring. If the word 'camphor' is
taken in its popular sense, it does not necessarily signify
that the camphor of Paradise be equated with the camphor available
in this world, because the latter is not palatable.

| THE MESSAGE |
THE
MOTHER IN RAMADHAN
----------------------------
Ramadhaan is the most important month of the Islamic year.
It is in this month that the family worships Allah and practices
Islam more fervently and with greater enthusiasm. The Muslim
family spend precious moments of their time together during
Iftaar and Suhoor. These two meals provide the fuel and blessing
that grant a Muslim the physical and spiritual strength to
fast.
The food Muslims consume plays a critical role in their worship.
Allah mentions in the Quran : "Eat what is wholesome
and do good deeds." In other words, wholesome and halaal
food promotes good character and actions. The responsibility
of ensuring that wholesome meals are provided for the family
rests on the father and mother. The father earns pure and
halaal sustenance. The mother ensures that the food that is
consumed is wholesome and halaal.
A few ideas on how a mother can create an Islamic home in
Ramadhaan:
Encourage children to recite Quran regularly every day even
if it be a little. This will discipline them and make them
love the Quran.
Encourage them to fast even for an hour or half a day. This
will build their confidence.
Let them perform Salaah together with the mother while she
prays.
Teach them one new thing about Ramadhaan every day, eg. a
dua, Hadith, benefit of fasting and Taraweeh, etc.
Teach them to avoid unhealthy food. Ramadhaan is, after all,
a month of diet control!
Assign one of the kids the responsibility for waking everyone
up for Suhoor and Fajr (Set your alarm clock, just in case!)
This will teach them the importance of Suhoor and Fajr.
In Ramadhaan, specifically, there must be a constant reminder
of an Islamic home! Children learn from a mother's personal
example. A mother who is always there by supervising and disciplining
her children and who keeps busy with Salah, Qur'aan and Dua
provides the most favourable Islamic atmosphere for piety
and happiness in the home. A mother provides a special warmth
and tenderness to the family during Ramadhaan. Ramadhaan without
a mother can never be a true Ramadhaan. Ask anybody who has
lost a mother within the last year how sad and empty that
home now is.
A Dua for our mothers and sisters...
May Allah grant our mothers the understanding of their critical
role in every Muslim home. They are the spiritual pillars
upon which the bricks of worship and obedience stand. If they
fall or crumble the future of the Ummah is at stake. May Allah
make our Muslim women true beacons of piety and strength.

More
than 50% of people remain unconvinced regarding the 9/11 attacks
and the war on so called terrorism. A new survey reveals that
people across the globe do not believe Al Qaeda perpetrated
the attacks saying the current political crisis created by
the West is unjustified.
At
least 45 people have been killed and scores others wounded
when according to sources, US armed forces hurled grenades
into a Masjid in northern Pakistan. The masjid, located in
Dir district near the border with Afghanistan, was full of
people performing Taraweeh Salaah
A
three story wave of mud and iron ore has killed at least 128
people in China. Authorities say they expect the death toll
to climb by hundreds more. There are also reports that several
hundred could be buried under the mud and there is little
hope of finding them alive.
South
Africa and neighbouring countries are being urged to invest
in Zimbabwe. This comes as the economic meltdown continues.
Earlier this week, Zimbabwe’s reserve Governer, allowed for
foreign currency trade.
Cartoonist
Jonathan Shapiro, mostly known as Zapiro, says public figures
must take full responsibility for what they say and do. He
has repeated that he will not apologise for a cartoon in the
Sunday Times, which shows an unzipped ANC President Jacob
Zuma towering over the Lady of Justice, who is being pinned
down by ANC alliance leaders. Shapiro says the intention was
not to demean women. |

FRUIT
COBBLER
(Serves 6)
60 g butter - 125 ml sugar (100 g) - 1 extra large egg - 250ml
Snow flake self raising flour (140 g) - 1 ml salt - 160 ml
milk - 5 ml vanilla essence - 410 g can sliced peaches - 45
ml sugar - 5 ml ground cinnamon.
Cream
butter and sugar well. Add egg and beat until light and fluffy.
Sift dry ingredients and mix alternately with milk and vanilla
into creamed mixture. Beat until smooth. Spread batter into
greased 32 cm times 22cm cake tin or ovenproof dish. Cover
with sliced fruit and press it slightly into batter. Mix sugar
and cinnamon and sprinkle over fruit. Bake in preheated oven
at 180 degree cel for 25 – 30 minutes. |

| HANDY HINT |
When
using a ladder, be sure that you are not set up in front of
an active door that may open. If so, lock the door. Have a
friend hold the base of the ladder for stability. If you don't
have a friend available, pound a couple of wooden stakes into
the ground at the foot of the ladder so that the ladder doesn't
slip out of place. |
