| HADITH/SAYINGS OF MUHAMMAD
SALLALLAHU ALYHI WA SALLAM |
Talhah
bin Ubaidullah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
A person with dishevelled hair, one of the people of Najd,
came to the Messenger of Allah Sallallahu Alyhi Wa Sallam.
We heard the humming of his voice but could not fully understand
what he was saying, till he approached close to the Messenger
of Allah Sallallahu Alyhi Wa Sallam. Then I came to know
that he was asking about Islam.
The
Messenger of Allah Sallallahu Alyhi Wa Sallam said: "There
are five (obligatory) Salaah during the day and the night."
He said: "Am I obliged to perform any other (Salaah)
besides these?'' The Messenger of Allah Sallallahu Alyhi
Wa Sallam said, "No, but whatever you observe voluntarily.''
He Sallallahu Alyhi Wa Sallam added, "There is the
Saum of Ramadan.'' The inquirer asked: "Am I obliged
to do anything besides this?'' The Messenger of Allah Sallallahu
Alyhi Wa Sallam said, "No, but whatever you do out
of your own free will. You may observe voluntary fasting.''
And the Messenger of Allah Sallallahu Alyhi Wa Sallam told
him about the Zakaah (obligatory charity).
The
inquirer asked: "Am I obliged to pay anything besides
this?'' The Messenger of Allah Sallallahu Alyhi Wa Sallam
said, "No, but whatever you pay voluntarily out of
your own free will.'' That man turned back saying: "By
Allah! I will neither make any addition to this nor will
I decrease anything from it.'' (Upon hearing this) the Messenger
of Allah Sallallahu Alyhi Wa Sallam remarked, "He is
successful if he proves truthful (to what he is saying).''
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
Commentary: This Hadith highlights the
following three points:
1. The status of some of the important obligations and voluntary
prayers.
2. By mentioning practice with the precepts, it has made
the fact evident that the two are inseparable.
3. It indicates the sagacious mode of preaching and invitation,
and tells that ordinary people should be first of all taught
the obligations of Islam and then gradually told to follow
the Sunnah and Mustahabbat (desirable acts).

Israel
has closed crossings into Gaza following a rocket attack on
the Israeli town of Sderot by Palestinian fighters. Today's
closures were the first during Ramadan. The rocket hit an
open area in Sderot, starting a fire but causing no casualties.
A
second baby has died in China as a scare over tainted baby
formula continues to spread. Almost 600 babies are now thought
to have been sickened after being fed the contaminated formula,
with China ordering an emergency nationwide inspection of
milk production facilities.
US
investment bank Lehman Brothers announced early this morning
that it intended to file for bankruptcy "in order to
protect its assets and maximize value". Their announcement
caused havoc on stock markets.
African
leaders were arriving in Zimbabwe today to witness the signing
by President Robert Mugabe and Morgan Tsvagarai of the historic
power- sharing deal that ends Mugabe's 28-year rule. Rainbow
Towers hotel in central Harare is the venue for the ceremony,
which caps eight weeks of difficult negotiations between Mugabe's
Zanu-PF and the MDC of Morgan Tsvangirai on the formation
of a unity government.
The
ANC are remaining tight-lipped today on reports that President
Thabo Mbeki's future will be discussed at a meeting of its
national working committee. The NWC meeting takes place today
ahead of a meeting of the national executive committee on
Friday. Several weekend newspapers quoted senior ANC members
as saying they would call for Mbeki to be dismissed. |

SAGO
GUAVA, BANANA SUMMER PUDDING
Ingredients
180ml Sago (soaked in water) - 6 Cups milk - 1 Large can Nestle
Cream - 1 large tin ideal milk - 375ml sugar - 1 large tin
Guava fruit lightly liquidized to pulp - 5 banana’s cut into
circles.
Method
Boil the milk and sago together till sago is transparent.
Add the sugar and simmer then leave to cool. Mix nestle cream
and ideal milk together. Liquidize guava’s to light pulp add
all remaining ingredients. Cut bananas into circles and mix
well. Serve chilled with dollop of fresh cream if desired.
NOTE:
This pudding does not set; it is a milky thick and creamy
soft pudding. |

you know the law, you've got to go back across the border

Mexican man pleads with them, "No, noooo Senior, I must
stay in de USA! Pleeeze!"
The
Border Patrol Agent thinks to himself, I'm going to make it
hard for him and says "Ok, I'll let you stay if you can
use 3 english words in a sentence".
The
Mexican man of course agrees.
The
Border Patrol Agent tells him, "The 3 words are: Green,
Pink and Yellow. Now use them in 1 sentence."
The
Mexican man thinks really hard for about 2 minutes, then says,
"Hmmm, Ok. The phone, it went Green, Green, Green, I
Pink it up and sez Yellow?" |
