SURAH
AD-DAHR: 76 - (The Time)
With the name of Allah, the All-Merciful, the Very-Merciful
They
(are the ones who) fulfil the vows, and fear a day whose evil
(events) will be widespread, [7]
COMMENTARY:
According to Imam Abu Hanifah RA, it is also a condition that
the vowed act must be an act of worship in itself, and such
act of worship should belong to those forms of worship which
have been made obligatory in some way or the other, as for
instance prayers, fasting, charity, sacrifice and so on. If
the vowed act is not prescribed as a worship, such a vow will
be void. For instance, if a person were to vow that he will
pay a visit to a sickly patient, or follow a funeral procession,
this vow will not be valid, because although these acts carry
rewards as acts of worship, yet they are not acts, of worship
in themselves (Al-'Ibadal-ul- Maqsudah). Detailed rules and
principles related to vows and oaths are available in books
of jurisprudence.

THE MESSAGE |
THE
MUSLIM HOME
by Sheikh Muhammed Salih Al-Munajjid
------------------------------------
Inviting
good and righteous people and seekers of knowledge to visit
the home
“My Lord! Forgive me, and my parents, and him who enters
my home as a believer, and all the believing men and women…”
[Nooh 71:28 – interpretation of the meaning].
If
people of faith enter your home, it will increase in light
(noor), and will bring many benefits because of your conversations
and discussion with them. The bearer of musk will either give
you some, or you will buy from him, or you will find that
he has a pleasant scent. When children, brothers and parents
sit with such visitors, and women listen from behind a curtain
or screen to what is said, this offers an educational experience
to all. If you bring good people into your home, by doing
so you keep bad people from coming in and wreaking havoc.
Seeking permission to enter
“O you who believe! Enter not houses other than your own,
until you have asked permission and greeted those in them,
that is better for you, in order that you may remember. And
if you find no one therein, still, enter not until permission
has been given. And if you are asked to go back, go back,
for it is purer for you. And Allaah is All-Knower of what
you do.” [al-Noor 24:27-28 – interpretation of the meaning].
“… so enter houses through their proper doors…” [al-Baqarah
2:189 – interpretation of the meaning].
Telling
children and servants not to barge in to the parents’ bedroom
without permission at the times when people usually sleep,
i.e., before Fajr, at siesta time and after ‘Isha’, lest they
see something inappropriate. If they see something accidentally
at other times, this is forgivable, because they are Tawwaafeen
(those who go about in the house) and it is difficult to stop
them. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “O you
who believe! Let your legal servants and those among you who
have not come to the age of puberty ask your permission (before
they come to your presence) on three occasions: before Fajr
prayer, and while you put off your clothes for the noonday
(rest), and after the ‘Isha prayer. (These) three times are
of privacy for you; other than these times there is no sin
on you or on them to move about, - attending (helping) you
each other. Thus Allaah makes clear the aayaat (verses of
this Qur’aan, showing proofs for the legal aspects of permission
for visits, etc.) to you. And Allaah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.”
[al-Noor 24:57].
It
is forbidden to look into the houses of other people without
their permission. The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings
of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever looks into someone’s
house without their permission, put his eyes out, and there
is no diyah or qisaas [blood money or retaliation] in this
case.” (Reported by Ahmad, al-Musnad, 2/385; Saheeh al-Jaami,
6046). |

NEWS |
Malaysian
authorities have banned an ethnic Indian group that has been
actively spearheading protests demanding equal rights for
minority communities. Officials said the Hindu Rights Action
Force (Hindraf) threatened the country's social stability.
Syed Hamid Albar, the Malaysian home minister, says Hindraf
was an illegal entity with immediate effect, and is detrimental
to public order and security. Syed Hamid says Hindraf repeatedly
organises protests without permits and tarnished the country's
image by seeking international support for its activities.
The
Bush administration endorsed the use of waterboarding against
al-Qaeda suspects in secret memos to the Central Intelligence
Agency (CIA). The pair of classified memos, written in 2003
and 2004, were requested by George Tenet, former CIA chief,
more than a year after secret interrogations got under way.
The CIA required cover from the White House due to concerns
of a possible backlash if details on harsh interrogation methods
went public.
A
human bomber has rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into a
police station in Pakistan's restive Swat Valley. Four people
were killed and the building destroyed.
Security
researchers say cellphones, and not just PCs, are the next
likely conscripts into automated armies. Of particular concern
is that as cellphones get more computing power and better
internet connections, hackers can capitalise on vulnerabilities
in mobile-phone operating systems or web applications.
The
closing down of three remaining refugee camps in the Cape
Peninsula is underway. Harmony Park, in Strand near Somerset
West, will close tomorrow, followed by Youngsfield and Blue
Waters at a later date. The bulk of the people from the three
safety camps will be reintegrated into local communities in
the Western Cape. Government has indicated that once the camps
are closed it will continue to create safe conditions for
the foreign nationals.

A THOUGHT |
VISION
--------
Every object in the world reflects and emits light on to its
surroundings. For instance, while you are looking at this,
the light reflected and emitted is going to the back of your
eye through your pupil.
This light, after going through a series of processes at the
back of your eye, turns into an electrical signal. This electrical
signal goes to your brain. At the back of your brain is the
centre of vision that makes it possible for you to see. The
centre of vision is a small area. This is the tiny area where
the electrical signals form the image and that is when you
see this reading.
Even
trying to explain these processes as briefly as possible takes
such a long time, whereas the process is instantaneous. These
processes happen so fast that when you look at the book, at
that instant you are able to see it.
Isn’t it such a perfect system?
