Jabir
(May Allah be pleased with him) reported: After the battle
of Uhud, the Prophet (PBUH) arranged the burial of two of
the martyrs in one grave. In each case he would ask, "Which
one of them had learnt more Qur'an by heart?'' Whichever was
thus pointed out to him, was placed by him first in the Lahd.
[Al-Bukhari]
Commentary:
Lahd is a type of grave in which a niche is made on the left
side of it to place the corpse. The grave which is straight,
a common type, is called Darih. This Hadith tells about the
distinction of the Hafiz and his superiority over others.
Similarly, the learned, the pious and men of outstanding virtues
should have preference over others. The Hadith also indicates
the permissibility to bury two or three persons in a single
grave in time of need or necessity. |

Allies
of Hugo Chavez, the Venezuelan president, have won a majority
in state elections for governors and mayors. With more than
95 per cent of votes counted, Venezuela's electoral agency
said Chavez's allies have won 17 states in Sunday's vote.
But the opposition has won two of the most populous states
and the mayor's post in Caracas.
Two
bomb have exploded in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, killing up
to 18 people. Iraqi police said as many as 13 women died on
Monday after a roadside bomb struck a minibus carrying female
employees from the trade ministry to work in eastern Baghdad.
Patients
at the largest hospital in the Gaza Strip could die if Israel
continues to prevent fuel and essential supplies to the territory.
Shifa hospital in Gaza City is using a faulty generator to
operate essential equipment since Gaza's main power plant
restricted supplies due to a lack of fuel from Israel.
President
Kgalema Motlanthe has appealed to the ruling Zanu-PF and the
opposition Movement for Democratic Change to urgently initiate
constitutional processes that will enable the formation of
a unity government. The Elders delegation comprising of former
United States President Jimmy Carter, former United Nations
chief Kofi Annan, and child and women's rights advocate Graca
Machel was blocked from visiting Zimbabwe at the weekend to
assess its humanitarian situation.
The
Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) Secretary-General,
Zwelinzima Vavi has uttered a stern warning to those who have
supported ANC President Jacob Zuma just in the expectation
of being given top government posts.

250ml pineapple juice - 125 ml orange juice - ½ fresh pineapple
- ½ liter water - ½ tsp salt - Mint leaves - Cream soda or
drink of joice.
Liquidize
pineapple with the water add salt and other juices and pour
jug filled with a dozen ice cubes taste and add chill thoroughly.
Serve at table adding as much soft drink per drink glass as
