HADITH/SAYINGS OF MUHAMMAD
SALLALLAHU ALYHI WA SALLAM |
Sahl
bin Abu Hathmah Al-Ansari (May Allah be pleased with him)
reported: `Abdullah bin Sahl and Muhaiyisah bin Mas`ud ¨(May
Allah be pleased with them) went to Khaibar during the period
of the truce (after its conquest) and they separated to
perform their duties. When Muhaiyisah returned to `Abdullah
bin Sahl, he found him murdered, drenched in his blood.
So he buried him and returned to Al-Madinah. Then `Abdur-Rahman
bin Sahl, Huwaiyisah and Muhaiyisah, the two sons of Mas`ud
went to Messenger of Allah (Peace Be Upon Him) and spoke
about the case of their (murdered) friend. `Abdur-Rahman,
who was the youngest of them all, started talking. The Messenger
of Allah (Peace Be Upon Him) said, "Let those older
than you speak first.'' So he stopped talking and the (other
two) spoke about the case of their (murdered) friend. The
Messenger of Allah (Peace Be Upon Him) said, "Will
you take an oath whereby you will have the right to receive
the blood money of your murdered man?'' And mentioned the
rest of the Hadith.'' [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
Commentary: This Hadith makes out the following
points:
1.
The eldest person has the first right to speak in a gathering.
But this principle is to be followed when all the persons
present there are equal in virtue and intelligence; otherwise,
one who is superior to others in these qualities will have
a prior right to speak.
2. The Hadith explains the issue of Qasamah which was in
vogue in the pre-Islamic period and was maintained by Islam.
Qasamah was a mode of settling cases of undetected murders.
In such situations, fifty persons from the heirs of the
victim were asked to take an oath that murder was committed
by some person of that locality (or some persons from the
heirs were required to take oath for fifty times to this
effect); after this oath, the people of that area were liable
to pay Diyah (blood money) to the heirs of the victim. If
the persons blamed for the murder said on the similar oath
that none of them had committed that offense, they were
absolved from the payment of Diyah and the payment of blood
money was made to the heirs of the victim from the Bait-ul-Mal
(state exchequer).
In
the incident referred in this Hadith when the Prophet (Peace
Be Upon Him) asked the brothers of the victim to take the
required oath, they refused to do so as they were not sure
as to who had committed the crime. The Prophet (Peace Be
Upon Him) did not ask the inhabitants of Khaibar for the
oath because the heirs of the victim did not have faith
in them. Thus, the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) himself made
the payment of the blood money to the heirs of the victim.

Barack
Obama has promised to shut down the Guantanamo Bay detention
camp. The US president-elect, in a television interview aired
on Sunday, also pledged to withdraw troops from Iraq as part
of rebuilding "America's moral stature". Obama had
made the promise to shut the US prison while on the campaign
trail, but his comments on Sunday were the first confirmation
of his intentions since the November 4 election. He did not,
however, elaborate on where the Guantanamo detainees would
be sent or whether they would be put on trial, or released.
Municipal
elections in India's troubled Jammu and Kashmir state are
under way amid condemnation from separatists who believe the
poll will only serve to deepen New Delhi's hold over the region.
Separatists have urged voters to boycott the ballot and polling
figures available early on Monday suggested turnout was low.
The elections come just weeks after some of the worst protests
against Indian rule in the country's only Muslim state.
Hamid
Karzai, the Afghan president, has said he will go to "any
length" to protect Mullah Omar, the fugitive leader of
the anti-government Taliban, in exchange for peace. Karzai
said in Kabul on Sunday he would offer the protection even
if it meant defying Afghanistan's international partners,
who could remove him from his job or leave the country in
disagreement. His comments come as international political
and military leaders are considering whether negotiating with
the Taliban is necessary as the group gains sway in large
areas of Afghanistan.
African
National Congress (ANC) President Jacob Zuma says his party
will get more than two-thirds majority, during the 2009 general
elections. Zuma was speaking to the SABC at the end of his
two-day visit to Mpumalanga yesterday. Zuma visited the province
to mobilise his supporters to register to have their names
on the voters' roll and make sure the ruling party wins the
next election with an overwhelming majority. The ANC president
met with religious and traditional leaders, the Indian and
white communities and addressed two rallies.
Economists
say hard-pressed motorists can prepare themselves for an extra
Christmas bonus this year. Econometrix senior economist Tony
Twine says the petrol price is likely to fall by R1.40 c/l
in December, which will be one of the largest ever fuel cuts.
The looming cut is mainly due to the sharp fall in crude oil
prices but some rand strength over the past month also helped
to push fuel prices lower. |

The furthest Mosque in an oppressed land,
Cries out for a helping hand.
Trusting in only HIS protection,
Brings reward of a Unique Seclusion.

Companionship in the smile of a curious face.
Ten days spent in earnest prayer,

The heavens cry on the most powerful night.
The crescent moon appears in the distant sky,
Chanting “Al Widah blessed one’, do I smile or cry?

Of memories that will never fade.
Familiar, loving arms ease the pain,

SELLING
WAR COMPENSATION
---------------------------------
Airman Jones was assigned to the induction center where he
was to advise new recruits about their government benefits,
especially their compensation plan.
It
wasn't long before Captain Smith noticed that Airman Jones
had almost a 100% record for compensation-plan sales, which
had never happened before.
Rather
than ask about this, the Captain stood in the back of the
room and listened to Jones's sales pitch. Jones explained
the basics of the plan to the new recruits, and then said:
"If
you have compensation and go into battle and are killed, the
government has to pay $200,000 to your beneficiaries. If you
don't have a compensation-plan, and you go into battle and
get killed, the government has to pay only a maximum of $6000."
"Now,"
he concluded," which bunch do you think they are going
to send into battle first? |
