At least six people have been killed and at least 20 others wounded in two bomb blasts in the centre of Iraq's capital, Baghdad. The bombings came on Monday in quick succession near the office of the police crime investigation unit in the central Karrada district, security officials said. At least 10 policemen were among those hurt in the attack.

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez says he believes Barack Obama will be the first "black man" to win the US presidential race. Chavez has offered to hold talks with him to improve ties between the superpower and one of its biggest oil suppliers. The US elections take place tomorrow and Obama looks set to win over Republican rival Johan McCain. McCain, who trails Obama in polls, has called Chavez a dictator.

A Humanitarian aid convoy will be sent today to the eastern DR Congo town of Rutshuru, currently held by rebels, for the first aid distribution in a week. Thousands of displaced sought to return home Sunday in eastern DR Congo as a ceasefire held, but European diplomats warned 1.6 million are at risk.

A one month old baby has died after been left in a car with his 5 year old brother. A horrified couple discovered that the baby had died while they were in a shopping at the Vangate Mall in Cape Town. The cause of death is not yet known and a postmortem will be performed during the week. Police could not say for how long the children had been left without supervision or whether the windows of the car were closed.

The new minister for public enterprises, Brigitte Mabandla, says South Africa may face fresh power cuts early in 2009. She says people are not saving as much electricity as they were. Eskom, which provides 95 percent of the country's power, has been rationing electricity since January. Citizens need to save at least 10% of energy.

Method

THE COLD WITHIN

Six humans trapped by circumstances,
in bleak and bitter cold.
Each one possessed a stick of wood,
or so the story told.

Their dying fire in need of logs,
the first man held his back,
for, of the faces around the fire,
he noticed one man of different colour.

The next man looking across the way,
saw one not of his church,
and couldn't bring himself
to give the fire his stick of birch.

The third one sat in tattered clothes
he gave his coat a hitch.
Why should his log be put to use,
to warm the idle rich?

The rich man just sat back
and thought of the wealth he had in store,
and how to keep what he had earned
from the lazy, shiftless poor.

The coloured man's face bespoke revenge
as the fire passed from his sight,
for all he saw in his stick of wood,
was a chance to spite the white.

The last man of this forlorn group
did naught except for gain,
giving only to those who gave,
was how he played the game.

Their logs held tight in death's still hand,
was proof of human sin.

They didn't die from the cold without,
they died from the cold within.

None of the judge's yelling and insults produced a full cup of coffee, until he finally threatened to cut the clerk's pay by one-third if he continued to produce one-third less than the judge wanted. The next morning he was greeted with a cup of coffee that was full to the brim, and the next morning and the morning after that.

The judge couldn't resist gloating over his success and smugly complimented the clerk on his new technique. "Oh, there's not much to it," admitted the clerk happily, "I take some coffee in my mouth right outside the coffee room, and spit it back in when I get outside your office."
