THE STORY |
Once
King Akbar was riding his horse in the countryside of Agra,
he felt hungry and asked a peasant for some food. The peasant
believing him to be an ordinary traveller brought some food
and cold water and did his best to make his stay in the
house comfortable.
When the mighty Emperor was refreshed and was ready to leave,
he told the villager: "My good man, I am the Emperor
of India. If you are ever in need of any assistance, please
come to my palace in Agra without any hesitation. I am pleased
by your hospitality and will be glad to be of help to you
in every way I can."
After
some time, the villager fell on hard times. Famine had set
in his village and food was hard to find. There was no work
for the farmers. The villager remembered the words of the
Emperor, he decided to go to Agra and asked for an interview
with the Great Mughal King Akbar.
He
was immediately ushered into the Emperor's private chambers,
where he found to his astonishment that the Emperor who
had just finished his prayers was supplicating to Allah,
and with raised hands was begging from the Almighty Allah
numerous favours for himself, his family and his subjects.
Soon, the Emperor finished his prayers and his eyes fell
on the villager who was waiting to meet him. He recognised
him immediately as the same man who had attended to his
needs during his journey to the village. The Emperor greeted
him warmly and had him seated by his side, and humbly asked
him if there was anything that he could do for him."O'
mighty Emperor," said the villager, "will you
please tell me what were you doing just now?" "Why
certainly" said Akbar, "I was asking from Allah
help in solving many difficulties that I face while ruling
my great empire, and for His aid in keeping my kingdom in
peace."
"Thank
you very much O' mighty emperor," said the villager.
"Now, I seek your permission to travel back to my village."
The emperor was astonished at the reply of the villager.
He said, "Why! What's the matter? He exclaimed. "Did
you not come here to ask for my help" The villager
answered him politely, but in a determined manner.
"O'
Emperor, I have learnt a great thing today! I will beg at
the same door as the One before which you were begging.
For my Lord, though you are the greatest among all the kings
of India, I find that you are a poor beggar. And, for me
to beg favours from a beggar would bring me disgrace from
the Almighty who is the Emperor of all emperors on this
earth."
Moral:
If you ask in Prayer, ask only from Allah, and if you seek
help, seek it only from Allah.

SUNNAH
(PRACTISES OF MUHAMMAD SAW) |
Before
sleeping recite some verses and some Surahs of Qura’an Sharief,
eg. Alhamadu, Aayatul Kursi, Surah Mulk (tabaarakallazee),
the four Quls and Durood Sharief. If one is unable to recite
so much then at least recite a few surahs as this is the
foundation for salvation in this world and hereafter.
Before
sleeping, recite Tasbeeh Faatima punctually i.e. 33 times
Subhaanallah; 33 times Alhamdulillah;
and 34 times Allahu Akbar. (Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawood,
Tirmidhi)

2 cups toovar dhal (oil lentils) - 2 cups water - ¼
tsp elachi powder - 2 ½ cups sugar - 2 Tbsp ghee.
Method
Soak dhal overnight or atleast for a few hours
in cold water. Wash off all the skins. Put in pot with hot
water and bring to boil, then reduce heat and allow to simmer
slowly till soft and mushy. Sieve through wire strainer.
Return to pot, add sugar and cook till nearly dry. Stir
continuously to prevent scorching. Add ghee and allow to
attain a lovely golden colour. Cool, then form into ping
pong sized balls and leave aside on floured plate or board.
The
dough
2

Method
Rub ghee in flour until fine like breadcrumbs.
Using just sufficient boiling water, knead into dough the

of melted ghee on either side and braise till gold in colour.

HEALTH TIPs |
Do
not relax so much that it causes you to gain weight and
laziness overtakes you. Don't let it happen that you are
found in bed most of the time while leaving your domestic
tasks to others. This is because too much of relaxation
affects the fulfilment of domestic tasks and at times also
causes sicknesses.
At
the same time, do not overwork to the extent that you fall
ill. Instead, you should use your hands, feet, and the rest
of your body in a moderate way. The method for this is that
you should do all your work quickly. Abandon the habit of
laziness. Adopt the habit of walking in the house for a
little while. If there is no fear of anyone seeing you outside,
walk around outside. Alternatively, if you live in a double-storey
house, go upstairs and come down a few times.
Also
try to use the spinning wheel and millstone or grinding
stone. We are not saying that you should start earning money
through this (i.e. grinding wheat and other products), although
there is nothing wrong with that. However, it is necessary
for you to take care of your health. In undertaking such
manual tasks, one remains healthy. Look at those women who
work hard in such manual tasks and see how strong and healthy
they are. As for those who seek relaxation all the time,
they are constantly under some medication or the other.
Such work is also known as exercise. Do not engage in any
exercise for about three hours after a meal. When you commence
exercising, continue until you begin perspiring or you begin
gasping for breath. Once this happens, stop exercising.

A THOUGHT |
ONE
or TWO?
------------
He who has no peer or member is the "one," an uneven
number, one without dispute! Whoso says "one" and
"two," and so on, confesses thereby the existence
of the "one." When the illusion of seeing double
is swept away, they who say "one" and "two"
are even as they who say "one."
If
you take "one" as your ball in His tennis field,
it is made to revolve by the strokes of His bat. Yes, the
ball that is even and without fault is made to revolve by
the strokes of the king's hand.

THE
TURKEY AND THE BULL
--------------------------
A turkey was chatting with a bull. I would love to be able
to get to the top of that tree, sighed the turkey, but I haven't
got the energy.
Well,
why dont you nibble on my droppings? replied the bull. They're
packed with nutrients. The turkey pecked at a lump of dung
and found that it gave him enough strength to reach the lowest
branch of the tree.
The
next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second
branch. Finally after a fourth night, there he was proudly
perched at the top of the tree. Soon he was spotted by a farmer,
who shot the turkey out of the tree.
Moral
of the story: Bullcrap might get you to the top,
but it won't keep you there. |
