QUOTE |
Umar
RA said: "Praise Allah, for through praise, His blessings
multiply. Fear Allah for that is fortune; [whereas] indifference
to Allah is misfortune. Be patient because patience is a pillar
of faith. Acquire knowledge and teach it to the people. Be
dignified, honest and truthful. Do not be an arrogant scholar,
for scholarship cannot subsist with arrogance.” |

PERSONALITY |
ABU
BAKR AL-MAKHZOOMI (000 - 94 AH)
------------------------------------------
Abu Bakr bin 'Abd Ar-Rahman bin Al-Harith bin Hishaam Al-Makhzoomi
Al-Qurashi was one of the seven eminent jurists of the Taabi'een,
(the generation that followed the Sahaabah {the Companions
of the Prophet}). He was called 'Raahib' (the monk or friar)
by the Quraysh, due to his prayers and fasting.
He
was an authoritative source, a reliable scholar and was known
for his generosity. He heard noble Hadith (traditions of the
Prophet - Peace be upon him) from a number of the esteemed
Companions (Sahaabah) of the Prophet (Peace be upon him),
which he comprehended and then memorised. Celebrated for his
education of jurisprudential decisions from texts, the people
abided by his legal opinions. Blind, he died in the year 94
AH and was buried in Al-Baqi'a, (the cemetery of Madinah). |

FIQH |
It
is Makruh to sit in Salaah in the following ways: to sit on
one's heels, to squat, to sit like a dog.
However,
if a person cannot sit in the prescribed way because of some
sickness or pain, then one can sit in whichever position that
is comfortable to him. In this case, nothing will be Makruh.

A THOUGHT |
20
MINUTES OF TAHAJJUD
--------------------------
Some people say that a person without a job is busier than
a person who is working because a jobless person is always
going here and there to look for jobs. Even if this person
gets a job that requires him to stay up all night will do
so as he needs to earn money. This is the nature of human
beings. When he knows the value of something, he will try
to attain it even if it be hard for him.
Allah
Ta'ala has granted us the gift of Tahajjud Prayer. Through
this prayer, we can get many blessings from Allah. Problems
such as sickness, family issues, money, hunger, etc can easily
be removed by praying to Allah at Tahajjud time. However,
because we did not recognize the value of this prayer, it
is very difficult for us to spare only 10-20 minutes of our
sleep to get up and pray. On the other hand, for some money,
we are ready to stay up the whole night. |

DEALING
WITH TROUBLE
------------------------
A deputy police officer responded to a report of a disturbance.
The "disturbance" turned out to be well over six
feet tall and weighed almost 300 pounds. What's more, he boasted
that he could whip the deputy.
Said
the policeman, "I'll bet that you're also an escape artist-probably
better than Houdini."
The
giant nodded.
"If
I had some chains," the deputy continued, "you could
show us how strong you really are. But all I've got is a set
of handcuffs. Why don't you see just how quickly you can break
out of them?"
Once
in the cuffs, the man puffed, pulled and jerked for four minutes.
"I can't get out of these," the giant growled.
"Are
you sure?" the deputy asked. The fellow tried again.
"Nope," he replied. "I can't do it."
"In
that case," said the deputy, "you're under arrest." |
