THE FRIDAY KHUTBAH (SERMON) |
“And Worship your Lord until there
comes unto you the Certainty”
by Imâm al-Haramain Sa'ûd ash-Shuraim
--------------------------------------
All praise is due to Allâh Lord of all the worlds. May peace
and blessings be upon the Messenger, his household and companions.
Fellow
Muslims! Fear Allâh as He should be feared and be conscious
of Him in private and public. Worship Him as if you see Him,
and even though you do not see Him, He sees you.
“And
put your trust in All-mighty, the Most Merciful, Who sees
you when you stand up (alone at night for prayers) and your
movements among those who fall prostrate. Verily, He, only
is the All hearer, the All knower.”
Brethren
in faith! There are lessons in the passage of days and nights,
and the days move quickly like clouds. The people shall continue
moving until they finally end in Paradise or Hell. Also, the
speed by which days and nights move now confirms the meaning
of closeness of times one to another which is one of the signs
of the Hour as the Prophet has informed us. This is therefore,
a great opportunity for the wise people to awaken, do good
deeds and have sincere repentance.
Allâh
says, “It is He who has put the night and the day in succession
for such who desires to remember or desires to show his gratitude.”
(Al Furqân 25:62).
Muslims
have recently spent a whole month enjoying the blessings of
their Lord between supplications, prayers, and remembrance
of Allâh, alms giving and recitation of the Qurân. But, alas,
these days and their memories passed so quickly as if they
were autumn leaves blown by a strong wind. read

DUA/PRAYER |
Being
presented with a Gift and when someone makes a Dua for one
It is reported of Sayyadatina Aisha RA that she said: A small
goat was presented to the Messenger of Allah, he said: "Divide
it out," then whenever the servant would return Sayyadatina
Aisha RA would say: What did they say? She would say: They
said: May Allah bestow blessings in you ( Bãraka 'allãhu feekum
then Sayyadatina Aisha RA would say: And in them may Allah
bestow blessings ( wa feehim bãraka 'allãhu we return upon
them the same as what they said, and our reward remains for
us.

India's
prime minister has declared flooding in the country's north
a "national calamity" and pledged $200m in relief
aid. Manmohan Singh made the pledge on Thursday as at least
2.5 million people were marooned after heavy monsoon rains
lashed their villages.
A
former US marine has been acquitted of voluntary manslaughter
in the killing of unarmed detainees in Iraq four years ago.
The acquittal of Jose Luis Nazario Jr came after six hours
of jury deliberations in the first-of-its-kind federal trial
in a California court on Thursday.
The
presidency has confirmed that it has forked out almost R10-million
towards ANC President Jacob Zuma's legal fees, but has denied
funding his Mauritian trips.
Despite
an increase in the oil price since last week, motorists can
still expect a substantial drop in the fuel price when it
is announced later today. But whether the petrol price will
drop by as much as R1, needs to be seen.
The
Free Market Foundation (FMF) has asked for the privatisation
of the energy market for the electricity crisis to be solved.
FMF Director Leon Louw says Eskom alone is not to blame for
the electricity crisis, he also blame Ministers responsible
for energy policy and the National Energy Regulator of South
Africa (Nersa). |

RECIPE |
BUTTERMILK
WAFFLES WITH BANANAS
(Makes about 8 waffles)
BATTER
--------
500 ml Snowflake cake flour (280g) - 15 ml baking powder -
3 ml salt - 10 ml sugar - 2 extra large eggs - 90 g butter,
melted - 250 ml buttermilk.
FILLING
60 g butter. 60 ml light brown sugar. 80 ml fresh orange juice.
5 ml finely grated orange rind. 6 ripe bananas, peeled and
cut in slices. 2 ml ground cinnamon.
Batter:
Sift dry ingredients together. Add remaining ingredients and
beat until smooth. Rest batter for about 30 minutes (mixture
should be thick). Heat the waffle iron and spray or brush
the plates. Pour the batter into the plates to cover about
two thirds of the iron. Close it and wipe away excess. Cook
batter for about 3 – 4 minutes until waffle turns light brown
on each side. Serve with syrup, ice cream or any other fruit
topping of choice. Filling: Heat the butter in a large frying
pan. Add the sugar and stir until sugar has melted. Add the
orange juice and bananas to the pan and cook for about 3 minutes.
Sprinkle cinnamon over bananas and serve with waffles.
VARIATIONS
For crisper waffle, substitute buttermilk with 300 ml milk. |
|
COOKING TIP |
When
substituting honey for sugar, you should add 1/2 tsp of baking
soda for every cup of honey used and bake at a temperature
of 25 degrees lower than the recipe calls for. You will also
need to use a little less honey than sugar. |

A THOUGHT |
THE
"COSTS" OF A CHILD
-------------------------
It was recently calculated that the cost of raising a child
from birth to 18 amounted to R160 140 for a middle income
family. Talk about shock! That doesn't even touch college
tuition! But R160 140 isn't so bad if you break it down. It
translates into R8 896,66 a year, R741,38 a month, or R185,34
a week. That's a mere R26,48 a day! Just over a Rand an hour.
Still, you might think the best financial advice says don't
have children if you want to be "rich." It is just
the opposite. |
|
THE SMILE |
A
BRIGHT IDEA
---------------
Two good old boys were trying to get a stubborn mule into
a barn. The mule's ears touched the top of the small barn
door, and he wouldn't proceed any further.
One
of the boys came up with a bright idea. "Why don't we
cut two holes in the barn above the door for the ears to go
through?" So they proceeded to do this.
A
city man was driving by and noticed the spectacle. So he asked
what they were doing. They told him they were cutting holes
in the barn so the mule could go through the door. He asked,
"Why don't you simply take a shovel and dig a small trench
in the ground?"
One
good old boy looked at the other and said, "Isn't that
just like a city slicker." Then he yelled, "It's
his ears that are too big, not his legs!" |
