| HADITH/SAYINGS

Abdullah
bin `Amr bin Al-`as (May Allah be pleased with them) reported:
A man came to the Prophet (PBUH) of Allah and said, "I
swear allegiance to you for emigration and Jihad, seeking
reward from Allah.'' He (PBUH) said, "Is any of your
parents alive?'' He said, "Yes, both of them are alive.''
He (PBUH) then asked, "Do you want to seek reward from
Allah?'' He replied in the affirmative. Thereupon Messenger
of Allah (PBUH) said, "Go back to your parents and
keep good company with them". [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].
In
another narration it is reported that a person came to Messenger
of Allah (PBUH) and sought his permission to participate
in Jihad. The Prophet (PBUH) asked, "Are your parents
alive?'' He replied in the affirmative. The Prophet a(PBUH)
said, "(You should) consider their service as Jihad.''
Commentary: Under normal circumstances,
Jihad is Fard Kifayah (collective duty -- which means that
if some people observe it, the rest of the Muslims will
be exempted from its obligation). In such circumstances
permission of parents to participate in Jihad is necessary
because their service is Fard-ul-`ain (individual duty --
an injunction or ordinance, the obligation of which extends
to every Muslim in person), and the former cannot be preferred
to the latter. This Hadith explains such a situation. In
certain circumstances, however, Jihad becomes Fard-ul-`ain
and in that case permission of the parents to take part
in Jihad is not essential because then every Muslim is duty-bound
to take part in it.

Palestinian parents whose sons were killed in the second intifada
in 2000 are in South Africa.
US
troops have killed 20 fighters in clashes in Baghdad's Sadr
City district. The fighting comes a day after leader of the
Al-Mahdi army; Muqtada al Sadr called for an open war.
The
ship carrying more than 70 tons of Robert Mugabe’s ammunition
and explosives is headed to Angola to offload its lethal cargo.
The International Transport Federation is headed to Angola
as well to persuade transport workers to refuse to offload
or handle the cargo.

Muslim girl from Lenasia south has been reported missing.
She was last seen with a male jumping into a taxi & getting
off in Fordsburg, cnr mint & bree. Nazira Majid is 25
years old and suffers from a chemical imbalance of the brain.
She is1.5m tall has shoulder length hair, is wearing a black

Three
wagons of a goods train transporting hazardous chemicals have
caught alight in Bethal in Mpumalanga. Spoornet spokesperson
Sandile Simelane says the train was stationary at Bethal station
last night when the flammable chemical Hexane, carried by
the trains, exploded. |

MUSTARD PICKLES
------------------
1
kg mangoes - 4 Tbsp mustard powder - 4 Tbsp green pounded
chillies - 1 Tsbp whole mustard - ½ bottle vinegar
- ½ bottle oil - Salt to taste.
Beat
mustard in a little vinegar and oil till frothy like mayonnaise,
add to mangoes. Add pounded green chillies. Heat whole mustard
in a little oil till they stop spluttering and pour over
mangoes. Lastly add rest of vinegar and oil. The consistency
will be curdy and these are pickles that can not be kept
form lengthy periods, so make small quantities at a time.

HAUGHTY MAN

One day, a bus driver, was in his bus when the biggest man
he had ever seen got on. The giant looked at the driver and
growled, 'Big Eric doesn't pay' , and took his seat.
The
bus driver was only a little man and he didn't really want
to argue.
This
happened for several days. After a week, The bus driver was
beginning to get a little angry. Everybody else paid, so why
not the big man?
So
The bus driver went to the gym and started a course of body-building.
He didn't want to be frightened of Big Eric any longer.
Eight
weeks later the driver had strong muscles and was feeling
very fit.
At
the usual stop, Big Eric got on. 'Big Eric doesn't pay' ,
he barked; but this time The bus driver was prepared for him.
He stood up, shaking slightly, and said between clenched teeth,
'Oh, yeah? And why doesn't Big Eric pay?'
'Because
Big Eric has got a bus pass', the man replied. |
