Former US President, Jimmy Carter, has defended his right to meet Hamas leaders during his trip to the Middle East. Carter is expected to arrive in Syria for talks with Hams leader, Khaled Meeshal. The expected meeting has drawn immense criticism from the USD and oither Western countries.

Both Democratic candidates for the US presidency, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have vowed to defend Israel if an attack from Iran occurs. Obama and Clinton say that they will defend Israel as the Apartheid State is in their words the strongest ally in the Middle East region.

Joburg Water is warning residents in some north-western Joburg suburbs that their tap water may not be safe to drink. The utility says testing has shown the quality of water in Fairland, Northcliff, Linden, Cresta and surrounding areas may not be up to standard.

SWEDISH MEAT RING

Ingredients
2 cups flour - 4 tblsps butter - ½ tsp salt - 4 tsps baking powder - ¾ cup milk.

Method
Rub butter into sifted dry ingredients. Make dough with milk - knead well. Roll out into oblong shapes about 1 cm thick. Spread filling and roll up lengthwise moisten edges to seal. Bring both ends together to form a ring. make slits halfway through each ring at 2 ½ cm intervals. Brush with beaten egg and milk and sprinkle khus khus and tal. Bake and serve hot with chutney.
