PERSONALITY |
ABU
SUFYAAN RA
(57 B.H. – 31 A.H.)
---------------------
Abu Sufyaan, Sakhr bin Harb bin Umayyah bin ‘Abd Shams
bin ‘Abd Manaaf was a Sahaabah (companion) who had
been of the nobility of the Quraysh in pre-Islam. He was
the father of Mu’aawiyah, the progenitor of the Al-Ummawiyah
state. At the onset of Islam, he was one of the leaders
of the polytheists who fought against Islam and the Muslims.
At the Battle of Uhud and at that of Al-Khandaq, he led
the Quraish archers.
The Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) was married to
one of his daughters, Umm Habeebah. She had been one of
those who had emigrated to Al-Habashah (Abbysinia). Her
husband at that time, ‘Ubaidullah bin Jahish, died
as a Christian. When the Quraish violated their agreement
with the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him), in the
year 8 of the hijrah, Abu Sufyaan attempted to apologise
for his tribe and renew the agreement and change it, without
the attack and conquest of Makkah. He came to Al-Madinah
and entered upon his daughter. She was not lenient or forgiving
towards him and because he was a polytheist, she would not
allow him to sit on the bed of the Messenger of Allah (Peace
be upon him). He was unsuccessful in his endeavour and returned
to Makkah to caution the Quraysh.
He
left a second time to parley with the Messenger of Allah
(Peace be upon him). He met him at the Gate of Makkah and
stopped with Al-‘Abbaas (Allah be pleased with him).
He saw the sizable army of the Muslims. It was not long
before he entered the fold of Islam and returned to Makkah
to advise all of its people to become yield to Mohammed
(Peace be upon him). He left with the army of the Muslims
to Hunain and Huwaazin and gave the Messenger of Allah (Peace
be upon him) one hundred camels and forty auqiyah (ounces)
of gold that he had gathered in it (of his share).
He was of excellence, after his Islam and took part in the
siege of Al-Ta’if. At the Battle of Yarmook, first
one of his eyes was cut and then the other, whilst he was
under the leadership of his son Yazeed. He was stimulated
to jihaad (struggle in the cause of Allah) and he called
out, “Oh, the victory of Allah is near”. He
stopped at Al-Kuraadees, remembering and said, “Allah,
Allah, Indeed You gave Islam triumph in the Arab lands and
they had assisted disbelief, and the state of Rome, Oh Lord,
this day of Your days bestow upon us Your victory”.
He was older than the Prophet (Peace be upon him) by ten
years. ‘Umar bin Al-Khattaab and after him, ‘Uthmaan
bin ‘Afaan, respected and ennobled him. He lived to
see his sons Yazeed and Mu’aawiyah, as governors of
Damascus. He died in Al-Madinah in the year 31 A.H., when
he was about ninety years old.

HADITH/SAYINGS
OF MUHAMMAD (SAW)
|
Abdullah
bin `Umar (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: Messenger
of Allah (PBUH) said, "The best of companions with Allah
is the one who is best to his companions, and the best of
neighbours to Allah is the one who is the best of them to
his neighbour". [At-Tirmidhi].
Commentary:
Companion is a common word which covers companions in journey
and stay. Muslims are ordained to treat all of them nicely.
But one's neighbour has precedence over others. Nice treatment
to him is the best means to attain a distinctive place with
Allah. |

POEM |
IF
THIS IS LIFE
By Clifford Pillay
---------------
I hear the voices shouting again
I feel the body move again
I gasp for air
I seek blood again
I
search for comfort
I reach for warmth
I yearn for nutrition
Stop
the voices from shouting
Stop these sudden movements
Stop restricting the air supply
Stop the blood from escaping
Bring
back the comfort
Bring
back the warmth
Bring
back the nutrition
The
innocent, sweet voice of an unborn child, saying, I –
I – I, STOP – STOP – STOP and BRING –
BRING – BRING…
I
think it’s my Mommy and Daddy…
That
are shouting at each other
If
this is life, I don’t want to...
Daddy
loved Mommy
Mommy loved Daddy
This love brought me
Such care
Such warmth
Such concern
Such respect
Where
is the care?
Where is the warmth?
Where is the concern?
Where is the respect?
Where is the love?
Mommy
wake up, I’m hungry and cold, I need you Daddy, please
come back, Mommy needs you…
If
this is life, I don’t want to...

THE
SMILE |
TO
ALL THE GREAT MUMS
I was out walking with my 4 year old daughter. She picked
up something off the ground and started to put it in her
mouth. I took the item away from her and I asked her not
to do that. "Why?" my daughter asked.
"Because it's been on the ground and you don't know
where it's been, it's dirty and probably has germs"
I replied. At this point, my daughter looked at me with
total admiration and asked, "Mummy, how do you know
all this stuff? You are so smart." I was thinking quickly.
"All mums know this stuff. It's on the Mummy Test.
You have to know it, or they don't let you be a Mummy."
We walked along in silence for 2 or 3 minutes, but she was
evidently pondering this new information. "OH... I
get it!" she beamed, "So if you don't pass the
test you have to be the daddy." "Exactly,"
I replied back with a big smile on my face.
When
you're finished laughing send this to a Mum. |
