THE MESSAGE

Why a mother is so valuable in Ramadhaan
--------------------------------------------
Ramadhaan is the most important month of the Islamic year. It is in this month that the family worships Allah and practices Islam more fervently and with greater enthusiasm. The Muslim family spend precious moments of their time together during Iftaar and Suhoor. These two meals provide the fuel and blessing that grant a Muslim the physical and spiritual strength to fast.

The food Muslims consume plays a critical role in their worship. Allah mentions in the Quran: "Eat what is wholesome and do good deeds." In other words, wholesome and halaal food promotes good character and actions. The responsibility of ensuring that wholesome meals are provided for the family rests on the father and mother. The father earns pure and halaal sustenance. The mother ensures that the food that is consumed is wholesome and halaal.

A few ideas on how a mother can create an Islamic home in Ramadhaan:
Encourage children to recite Quran regularly every day even if it be a
little. This will discipline them and make them love the Quran.

Encourage them to fast even for an hour or half a day. This will build their confidence.

Let them perform Salaah together with the mother while she prays.

Teach them one new thing about Ramadhaan every day, eg. a dua, hadith, benefit of fasting and taraweeh, etc.

Teach them to avoid unhealthy food. Ramadhaan is, after all, a month of diet control!

Assign one of the kids the responsibility for waking everyone up for Suhoor and Fajr (Set your alarm clock, just in case!) This will teach them the importance of Suhoor and Fajr.

In Ramadhaan, specifically, there must be a constant reminder of an Islamic home! Children learn from a mother's personal example. A mother who is always there by supervising and disciplining her children and who keeps busy with Salah, Qur'aan and Dua provides the most favourable Islamic atmosphere for piety and happiness in the home. A mother provides a special warmth and tenderness to the family during Ramadhaan.

Ramadhaan without a mother can never be a true Ramadhaan. Ask anybody who has lost a mother within the last year how sad and empty that home now is. A dua for our mothers and sisters.

May Allah grant our mothers the understanding of their critical role in every Muslim home. They are the spiritual pillars upon which the bricks of worship and obedience stand. If they fall or crumble the future of the Ummah is at stake. May Allah make our Muslim women true beacons of piety and strength. Ameen!

DUA/PRAYER
Rasulullah SAW said: "Whoever would say as he enters the morning and as he enters the evening: Subhãna 'allãhi wa bihamdihi 100 times, no one would arrive on the Day of Resurrection with better than what he arrived with, except for a person who said the same, or more.”

RECIPE

MINI PIZZAS
Ingredients

Base
4 cups flour - 1 times 10g dry yeast - ½ cup sugar - ½ tspn salt - ½ cup olive oil - 1 ½ cups luke warm water - grated mozzarella cheese - cherry tomatoes, green peppers & oregano to garnish.

Sauce
1 times 410g can tomato & onion mix - 1 tblspn olive oil - 4-6 cloves garlic, finely chopped - ½ tspn sugar - ½ cup tomato puree.

METHOD
Combine flour, yeast, sugar and salt in a mixing bowl. Mix half the oil with the luke water and add to flour. Mix to a soft dough. Knead in the other half oil until smooth, cover & leave to rise until double in size. Punch down dough knead slightly and divide into 48 balls. Roll each ball into a round roti, leaving the edges a little thick. Prick the centre of each roti with a fork and bake at 180 degrees for five minutes.

SAUCE
Braise garlic in oil until garlic turns pink. Add tomato and onion mix, oregano, sugar, salt and tomato puree. Cook until sauce thickens. Spread sauce onto pizzas. Sprinkle with cheese and top with cherry tomato halves & green pepper slices. Sprinkle some oregano and bake at 180 degrees for 10-15 minutes. Makes 48, so you can then freeze them and use as you need.

POEM

His eyes slept very little,
For nights were precious,
His prayers he treasured much greater.
To wake and pray in the depths of night,
Seeking forgiveness, and being nearness his Creator.

He broke his tooth for me at Uhud,
And bled for me at Ta'if.
He cried for me, tears of concern,
Just so I could have this belief.

His enemies admired his teachings,
Uniting every religion, every clan.
Till ISLAM came to every corner of the world,
Yet, indeed, he was only one man.
To own a house, or build his wealth

Was not his main priority.
To establish ISLAM was more essential,
To bring us under a Higher Authority.
Don't you want him to plea for your case?

When before ALLAH, The Judge, you stand?
Don't you wish to be around his fountain?
Burning desire to drink from his hand?
So love him more than all creation,
Our Leader, OUR Humble Prophet.

Muhammad is a mercy to all of humankind, And to me, he is MY BELOVED!

A THOUGHT
Been deceived?
People aren’t perfect: we will make mistakes. Satan deceives us by making us think that minor sins aren’t important. So we might think, “What’s the big deal if I tell a ‘white lie’?” The fact is, lies are lies and sins are sins, and as the Prophet said, even minor sins, “if a person is called to account for them, will destroy him.” [Ahmad]
So how do we repent for what we do wrong, whether minor or major?
Recognize what’s wrong and stop doing it right away.
Hate the action and regret that we ever did it.
Be determined never to do the action again.
If someone’s rights were violated by the action we should seek their forgiveness and set things right.
While we may end up falling into the same trap again, we can always repent and get back on the straight path. Only those people who give up and continue to follow Satan are deceived and truly losers.

THE SMILE
On a slow day with few customers, a clerk at a telegram office looks down from her counter and sees a dog waiting in line. "Oh, aren't you cute?" she says. "What would you like me to put on your telegram?"
"Bow wow wow, Bow wow wow," the dog replies. The clerk says in a cutesy voice, "But you can add another 'Bow wow wow' for the same price."
The dog responds, "Now wouldn't that sound a little silly?"
