for the one who feared to stand before his Lord, and restrained
his self from the (evil) desire, [40]
Paradise will be the abode.

COMMENTARY:
Shaikh Imam Ya'qub Karkhi
RA says that in his young age he was a carpenter. He found laziness, and felt darkness in his inner self. So, he intended
to keep fasts for a few days so that he may get rid of the
laziness and darkness. Co-incidentally, one day, while he
was fasting, he went up to Shaikh Imam Baha'uddln
Naqshbandl. The Shaikh called
for meals for his guests. He was also invited to partake
of the meal, and the Shaikh said: "He is a very bad
slave who is the slave of his base self that misleads him.
It is better to partake of meal than to keep fast with evil
desires of the base self." Shaikh Karkhi
says that at that moment he realised
that (by fasting) he was falling prey to self-complacence,
self-conceit and pride, which the Shaikh Naqshbandl
perceived. On that occasion, Shaikh Karkhi
realised that a spiritual master's
permission and guidance is needed to take up an optional
act of worship, because the spiritual master is aware of
the hidden tricks of the evil desires of
the base self. If an optional act of worship will
be accompanied by such motives, then that will put a stop
to it [for remedial purposes].
He asked Shaikh Naqshbandl: "If I cannot
find a Shaikh who is called in Sufi
terms as {ani fillah
and baqi billah, (the explanation is coming in the next paragraph.) what must I do?" He replied: "Recite istighfaar abundantly and recite
istighfaar [seek Allah's pardon]
twenty times regularly after every prayer, so that it works
out to a hundred times reciting it five times a day."
The Holy Prophet Sallallah Alyhi Wa Sallam is reported to
have said: "Sometimes I feel my heart disturbed, and
I recite istighfaar
[seek Allah's pardon] a hundred times a day."

Pakistan’s
frontier government has deployed thousands of soldiers to
the Swat region as a show of strength. They want to take
control of 59 villages that they say are becoming militant.
ANC
deputy leader Jacob Zuma is currently in first place in
the party’s presidential race. Elections for the next
ANC leader will take place in December.
A
small majority says South Africa is ready for a woman president
when Mbeki steps down in 2009.
The ANC's policy conference has said it preferred the ANC
president, to be elected in December, to become head of
state.
Police are still looking for two Indian men who escaped from
the Randburg police cells. It is believed that one man has

Muslims and Jewish community leaders are joining hands in
the fight against drugs. The
first-of-a-kind interfaith service is aimed at counseling

STRUDEL
SCONES
Ingredients
3 cups cake flour - 2 tblsps baking powder - ½
tsp mixed spice - 1 tblsp sugar - 60grm butter - 1 cup Fresh
full cream milk - 3 granny smith apples - ¼ cup soft
brown sugar - ½ cup sultanas - ½ tsp ground
cinnamon - Icing sugar.
Method
Sift flour, baking powder and mixed spice into a
bowl of a food processor. Add sugar and pulse to combine.
Roughly chop butter and add. Pulse until mixture is crumb
like. Pour milk down the feed tube. Pulse till just combined.
Transfer the mixture to a lightly floured surface. Roll or
pat the dough out into a rectangle of 32cm x 24cm. Peel and
grate the apples and spread the apples over the dough. Combine
the brown sugar, sultanas and cinnamon and sprinkle this mixture
over the apples. Roll dough up like a Swiss roll from the
short side. Divide and cut roll into 12 even slices. Arrange
in a shallow greased cake tin, placing scones around the edge
and in the centre of the cake tin allowing room to spread.
Bake at 220c for 15/20 minutes or until pale golden. Leave
in tin for a few minutes before turning out onto a cooling
rack. Dust with sifted icing sugar and serve warm. |

The
excellences of teaching and learning are manifest. For if
knowledge is the most excellent of things, the process of
acquiring it would then be a search for the most excellent,
and imparting it would be promoting the most excellent. For
human interests extend to both the material and the spiritual
worlds, and no order exists in the latter without existing
in the former because this world is a preparation for the
next, and is the instrument which leads to Allah anyone who
uses it as such, a home for him who takes it as a dwelling
place. The affairs of this world, however, do not become orderly
except through human activities.

Farouk
and Riaz from Lenz were in Laudium when they suddenly spotted
this sign on a shop window:

Farouk said to his pal. "look at that! we could buy a
whole load of those clothes... then when we get back we could
resell them and make us a fortune!"
"Now listen, when we go into the shop you keep your big
mouth shut, hey! Just you let me do all the talking plus wheeling
and dealing stuff, because if they hear your Lenz accent,
they might try to rip us off. I'll be giving them my best
LAUDIUM accent so they think we're locals. "
They
go in and Farouk says, "Excuse me sir, I'll take 50 of
your finest suits at R20 each, plus 100 shirts at R10 each,
and 50 pairs of your trousers at just R8 each. I will be paying
in cash, and taking those items with me today, if you don't
mind."
The
owner of the shop interrupts, "You're from Lenz, right?"
Err....ja says Farouk, "how do you know?"
The
owner says, "This is a dry-cleaner you idiot!" |
