SURAH AN-NABA': 78 (The Great Event)
IN THE NAME OF ALLAH THE BENEFICENT THE MOST MERCIFUL
Did
We not make the earth as a floor, [6]
and the mountains as pegs? [7]
And We have created you in pairs, [8]
and made your sleep a source of rest, [9]
COMMENTARY:
Then the Noble Qur'an has pointed to different demonstrations
of His power to prove that it is not impossible for Allah
to destroy this entire world and re-create it once again.
Reference is made to the creation of earth, mountains, human
beings, males and females and the creation of suitable conditions
for human life, health and activities. One of the things mentioned
in this connection is: (and made your sleep a source of rest.
78:9). The word Subat is derived from Sabt which means 'to
cut off'. Sleep is something that cuts off the worries and
tensions one may have, and thus gives him such a rest that
cannot be attained from anything else. Therefore, some scholars
translate the word Subat as 'rest'.

A
number of protest marchers have taken place in the US against
the Annapolis conference. The demonstrations took place
in several cities across the country. A
similar protest is expected to take place today in Johannesburg.
Today marks 60 years since the occupation of Palestine by
Israel. The protest will begin at 15:00 this afternoon.
About
1,000 Philippine troops backed up by SWAT teams and armoured
personnel carriers are surrounding the Manila hotel in Philippines.
The
five star hotel has allegedly been taken over rebel soldiers.
A
shell aimed at Islamic fighters in northern Pakistan killed
11 civilians. In another incident a roadside bomb killed
five soldiers near the Afghan border.
Deputy
President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka says she is shocked at

Coconut
Cake
Ingredients
4 oz butter - ½ cup sugar - 3 eggs separated - 1 ½
tsp vanilla essence - ½ cup milk - 1-cup flour
2 tsp baking powder - 1 Cup coconut - Extra ½ cup sugar.
Method
Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Add egg yolks one at a time.
Add vanilla essence, milk, sifted flour and baking powder.
Place mixture in baking pan and keep aside.
In a bowl add egg whites and your extra ½ up sugar.
Beat with eggbeater till thick
Then add coconut and beat again till the coconut mixture gets
hard.
Add this mixture on top of your cake mixture.
Bake in oven on 280 for 40 minutes. |
