UNDERSTANDING THE QUR’AN
SURAH AN-NAAZIAAT: 79
(Those Who Pull Out)
IN THE NAME OF ALLAH THE BENEFICENT THE MOST MERCIFUL

Are you more difficult to be created or the sky? He has built it, [27]
He has raised its height, then made it proper, [28]
and darkened its night, and brought forth its daylight, [29]
and, after that, He spread out the earth. [30]
From it, He brought out its water and its meadows, [31]
and firmly fixed the mountains, [32]
(all this) as a benefit to you and your cattle. [33]

COMMENTARY: Further, the Qur'an again disposes of the doubt of the rejecters of resurrection who pose the question: "Are we going to be brought back to our former state (of life)? Is it when we will have turned into decayed bones?" [10-11] In other words, this is a negative rhetorical question. They purport to say that it is not possible for them to be restored to life after death when they have become perished and worm-eaten bones. Allah responds that the Supreme Creator, Who drew out this universe without any pre-existing matter and without any instrument, certainly has the Supreme power to give existence to things after destroying them. Why should it be a surprise?

DUA (PRAYER)
It is reported of the Prophet that he said: "One who wakes up at night and says: Lã 'ilãha 'illa 'allãhu wahdahu la shareeka lahu, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu, wa huwa `ala kulli shay'in qadeerun, 'al-hamdu lil-lahi, wa subhãnallãhi, wa lã 'ilãha 'illa 'allãhu, wa 'allãhu 'akbaru, wa lã hawla wa lã quwwata 'illã bil-lahi 'al-`alyyil-`atheemi. There is no 'ilãh except Allah, Alone, no associate does He have, his is the Kingdom, to Him is all praise, and He is very able to do every thing. All praise be to Allah, Glory be Allah, there is no 'ilãh except Allah, and Allah is greater [than every thing]. There is neither might, nor strength except by Allah the High the Magnificent.

Then says: 'Allãhumma 'ighfirlee, O' my 'ilãh forgive me. Or supplicates, he will be answered, then if he makes ablution and prays his prayer would be accepted".

THE ROPE
The night fell heavy in the heights of the mountains and the man could not see anything. All was black. Zero visibility, and the moon and the stars were covered by the clouds. As he was climbing only a few feet away from the top of the mountain, he slipped and fell into the air, falling at great speed. He could only see black spots as he went down, and the terrible sensation of being sucked by gravity.

He kept falling. And in the moments of great fear, it came to his mind all the good and bad episodes of his life. He was thinking now about how close death was getting, when all of a sudden he felt the rope tied to his waist pull him very hard. His body was hanging in the air.

Only the rope was holding him and in that moment of stillness he had no other choice other to scream: "Help me Allah".

All of a sudden a deep voice coming from the sky answered, "What do you want me to do?"
"Save me Allah".
"Do you really think I can save you?"
"Of course I believe You can."
"Then cut the rope tied to your waist."

There was a moment of silence and the man decided to hold onto the rope with all his strength. The rescue team tells that the next day a climber was found dead and frozen. His body hanging from a rope. His hands holding tight to it. Only 1 foot away from the ground.

Conclusion: And We? How attached we are to our rope will we let go??? Don't ever doubt about the words of Allah. We should never say that He has forgotten us or abandoned us.

NEWS
The CIA has received secret presidential approval to begin an operation to destabalise the Iranian government. Abcnews reports that CIA officers were given secret permision to begin a “black” operation aimed at toppling the Iranian government. The operation includes a coordinated campaign of propaganda, disinformation and manipulation of Iran's currency and international financial transactions.

KwaZulu-Natal's mayors will no longer be allowed to travel using blue lights on their official vehicles. Safety MEC Bheki Cele has ordered the officials to return them.

The cold weather is causing havoc all over the province this morning. A 69year old woman burnt to death when her shack caught fire in Eatonside, near De Deur.

The price of petrol might increase again at the end of this month. The increase is due to unstable oil prices due to the Middle East crisis. Since February, the petrol price has increased by R1.49 a litre.

17 people have died in Gauteng and the Eastern Cape as the icy weather continues. In Nancefield in Soweto, two babies died when the shack they were in caught fire.

The long-awaited Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Bill was finally adopted by the National Assembly yesterday. Prostitution will in future also be a crime for both sex workers and clients.

RECIPE
ALMOND APPLE PUDDING
Ingredients
4 – 5 granny Smith apples
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ cup brown sugar

Method
• Peel and core the apples
• Slice them thickly and place in a 1 litre oven proof pudding dish
• Mix the cinnamon and the sugar and sprinkle over the apples

Topping
125g butter or margarine
¾ cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 cup self-raising flour
½ teaspoon almond essence
¼ cup milk
2 tablespoon flaked almonds (for decoration)

Method
• Cream butter and sugar
• Beat in eggs
• Add flour, essence and milk
• Spread the mixture over the apples
• Sprinkle flaked almonds over
• Bake at 180 degrees C for about 35 minutes
• The apples will be tender and the sponge well risen and golden brown
• Dredge with icing sugar and serve with hot custard.

COOKING TIP
To chop or finely grind nuts in a food processor without turning them into a puree, add 2 tablespoons sugar into the jar.

Stress

Too much stress can wear down our resistance to assaults on self-esteem as well as to physical disease. At one time or another, we've all had trouble holding on simply because we were too tired to fight back. We gave in to fatigue. But we mustn't draw the conclusion that stress is always as harmful as fatigue is.

If we're translating the stress in our lives into positive experiences, we're elevating our self-esteem. Many of the new behaviours that become the building blocks of self-esteem are wretchedly uncomfortable at first. Even thinking about them may make us break out in a cold sweat. Of course, there will be stress-but it's the kind of stress that creates. If self-esteem were bread, stress would be the yeast in the recipe.

THE SMILE
Ticket, Please
Three engineers and three accountants are travelling by train to a conference. At the station, the three accountants each buy tickets and watch as the three engineers buy only a single ticket.

"How are three people going to travel on only one ticket?" asks an accountant.
"Watch and you'll see," answers an engineer.

They all board the train. The accountants take their respective seats but all three engineers cram into a restroom and close the door behind them.

Shortly after the train has departed, the conductor comes around collecting tickets. He knocks on the restroom door and says, "Ticket, please."

The door opens just a crack and a single arm emerges with a ticket in hand. The conductor takes it and moves on.

The accountants saw this and agreed it was quite a clever idea. After the conference the accountants, being clever with money, decide to copy the engineers on the return trip. When they get to the station, they buy a single ticket for the return trip. To their astonishment, the engineers don't buy a ticket at all.

"How are you going to travel without a ticket?" says one perplexed accountant.
"Watch and you'll see," answers an engineer.

When they board the train, the three accountants cram into a restroom and the three engineers cram into another one nearby. The train departs. Shortly afterward, one of the engineers leaves his restroom and walks over to the restroom where the accountants are hiding. He knocks on the door and says, "Ticket, please."
