1. The story goes that an Arab named Khalid was tending his goats in the Kaffa region of southern Ethiopia, when he noticed his animals became livelier after eating a certain berry. He boiled the berries to make the first coffee. Certainly the first record of the drink is of beans exported from Ethiopia to Yemen where Sufis drank it to stay awake all night to pray on special occasions. By the late 15th century it had arrived in Mecca and Turkey from where it made its way to Venice in 1645. It was brought to England in 1650 by a Turk named Pasqua Rosee who opened the first coffee house in Lombard Street in the City of London. Shukr - thankfulness
Allah SWT said with respect to the story of the two men: "Why do you not, when you enter into your garded say: Mã shã'a 'allãhu lã quwwata 'illã bil-lãhi" All this is the wish of Allah!!! There is no power and might accept with Allah.It is reported of the Prophet that if he saw something he liked he would say 'Al-hamdu lil-lãhi 'allathee bini`matihi tatimmus-sãlihãtu, All praises are due to Allah by His bounty all good actions reach perfection. And if he saw something he disliked he would say, 'Al-hamdu lil-lãhi 'alã kulli hãlin. All praises are due to Allah in all conditions.

THE STORY
Amongst the nations of the past there was a woman who had given birth to a baby. After she had delivered she instructed her caretaker to light a fire. As he was leaving to comply to the order a person suddenly appeared and asked him: “What has this woman given birth to?” The caretaker replied that she had given birth to a girl.

The person said to him: “Remember, this girl will commit Zina (illegal sexual relations) one hundred times and she will finally be killed by a spider.” The caretaker immediately returned and cut open the stomach of the baby girl. Thinking that she had died he quickly left the place. The mother, however, stitched the stomach together again and the girl survived.

She grew up to be so beautiful that there was no one in her city that could be compared to her in beauty. Meanwhile the caretaker had fled and settled close to the sea. He continued to earn and finally decided to return to the city to marry. On his way he met an old woman and mentioned to her that he wanted to marry such a woman who excelled all others in beauty. The old woman advised him to marry a specific woman who was exceedingly beautiful. He tried to the best of his ability to win her hand over and finally married her.

The young bride asked her husband who he was and where he was from. He replied that he was an inhabitant of this very city. He explained to her that he had cut open a young baby girl’s stomach and ran away to the sea. Having heard his story she exclaimed that she was the very same girl and she showed him her stomach which had the signs of the cut. The man replied: “If you are the very same girl then I would like to tell you two things. You will commit Zina a hundred times.”

The girl replied in the affirmative: “I have done as you have said but I cannot remember the number of times I have committed Zina.”

The man said to her: “The number is a hundred. The second thing is that you will be killed by a spider.” The man built for her a splendid house where there was no chance of finding even a spider web. One day they were relaxing and her sight fell onto a spider on a wall. She asked her husband: “Is this the spider which you had warned me about?”

She immediately sprang up and pounced onto it saying: “Let me kill it immediately.” She managed to get it onto the floor and quickly trampled and killed it. The spider was killed but some of its poison landed on her foot and toes. This led to her death.

Moral: Death will come to you at an appointed time and place. The Quran says: “Where ever you are death will find you even though you may be in fortified palaces.” (Surah Nisaa, Verse 78)

RECIPE
CHICKEN CORN SOUP
1 cup chicken breast – cubed - 1 tsp ginger/ garlic - 1 Tbsp ghee - 1 tsp pepper - 1 tsp ground green chillies - 1 tsp salt - 2 tsp mustard powder - 1 cinamon stick - 1 tin cream style corn - 1 liter milk - 2 Tbsp flour - 60g Butter - 1 small tin cream.

Method
In a pot place the chicken and the ingredients marked with an asterisk Braise and simmer until the spices are well integrated with the meat. Add a little more water and allow all to boil together. Add in the corn and milk. Make a white sauce with flour and butter and add it into the pot and simmer. Just before serving add in cream and a grinding of black pepper, this will really pep up the soup.

COOKING TIP
Roast saffron very slightly before crushing into milk or water, for better absorption and colour.

A THOUGHT
If ye really have trust in Allah, exert yourselves, and strive, in constant reliance on the Almighty. Wisdom is granted often times to the weak.

THE SMILE
A flight was on its way to Los Angeles when one of its pilots came and said "I'm sorry to inform you that one of the flight's engines has stopped functioning. “This is no cause for concern because we have three more engines. However, the flight will just be delayed by an hour".

Shortly afterwards, the pilot reappears and says "I'm terribly sorry, but a second engine on this plane has stopped functioning. There is no danger; this plane can fly quite normally on two engines. However, the flight will now be delayed for two hours." After about twenty minutes, the pilot comes and says "I'm afraid that the third engine has stopped functioning as well, but we have one more engine functioning well. The flight will just be delayed for a couple of hours more."

A passenger at the back of the flight turns to another passenger and says angrily "I hope that last engine doesn't stop functioning! We'll be stuck here all day!"
