When entering a market/shopping center recite the following words: Laa ilaaha illallaahu wahdahu Laa shareeka lahu, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu yuhyee wa yumeetu wa huwa hayyul Laa yamootu, biyadihil khayr wa huwa alaa kulli shay'in qadeerThere is no deity except Allah, the Only One. He has no partner. To Him belongs all kingdom and to Him belongs all praise. He is the One who gives life and death. And He is Ever-living and no death comes to Him. In His Hand lies all good and He has power over everything.
It is reported in a Hadith that for reciting these words, Allah Ta’aala will record one million good deeds, forgive one million sins, elevate the status a million times and build a house for him in Jannah. (Mishkaat)

Moulana Qassim Sema Sahib (rahimahullah) - End of an Era
--------------------------------------------------------------
The 300 years of Islam in South Africa have seen the influence of Sheikh Yusuf Macasari dominate the first century with the establishment of Islam on these shores. The next hundred years felt the influence of Tuan Guru who saw to the establishment of the first Masjid and Madressah in SA. And the next century was overwhelmingly dominated by the works and sacrifice of Moulana Qassim Sema, the founder of the first Darul Uloom in SA (possibly the first Darul Uloom teaching through the medium of English in the world), who also had an immense role to play in establishing the work of Tableegh as well as Dawah among non-Muslims.
Moulana Sema was a visionary, an extraordinarily dedicated man, who served Islam till his last days. This short dedication to this hero of Islam can never do justice to his legacy and I will suffice with but a few facts, for to write of all his work will require many pages.
Moulana Qassim Mohammed Sema was born on 12 May 1920 in Newcastle, KwaZulu Natal. At the age of five he started his Islamic and secular studies, schooling at Oswalds School in Newcastle. Due to Apartheid laws, which restricted Indians from academic qualifications, he finished standard six (grade eight). His first Islamic tutor was Moulana Hafiz Shams-al-Din who taught in Newcastle for three years before returning to India. During this time, Moulana learnt to read the Qur'an as well as Urdu. Another early teacher was Hafiz Ikram-al-Din of India. By the age of nine, Moulana Sema was singled out to recite Qur'an when guests arrived at the Madressah where he was a student. read more
PERSONALITY
The qualities of the virtuous Moulana Qasim Sema RA
As told by his son - Zakariyya Sema –
Written by his grandson – Tahir Sema –
------------------------------------------
He used to say “I rather be a nobody than be a somebody”As his son, what stood out for me, were two qualities; the first being he did not judge anyone; therefore the pious and the not so pious felt at ease in his company, even the people that where looked down upon by others, he tried to include them in his Deeni work, and sometimes it was those very same people that assisted him the most in his Deeni activities. The second quality he possessed; he never disliked anyone, for any reason. He loved people that were despised by others, He loved everyone regardless of his colour, race, creed, or social standing, and to such an extent he hosted beggars in his house. He brought up orphans that other rich people refused to accommodate, in spite of his meagre earnings. Till this day they regard us as their family. He displayed the same honour both to the poor and to the rich.
He survived many calamities because he was destined for greater things and his mission was not complete. He survived the torpedoed ship when he was returning after his studies. He survived an accident in which four people were martyred on their return from an Ijtima in Cape Town. He must have had a premonition and therefore an old students’ reunion during the last Jalsa. read more

A sweet-smelling piece of clay, one day in the bath, came from the hand of a beloved one to my hand. I asked: 'Art thou musk or ambergris? Because thy delicious odour intoxicates me.'It replied: 'I was a despicable lump of clay; But for a while in the society of a rose. The perfection of my companion took effect on me. And, if not, I am the same earth which I am.'
THE SMILE
The father of five children had won a toy at a raffle. He called his kids together to ask which one should have the present. "Who is the most obedient?" he asked. "Who never talks back to mother? Who does everything she says?"Five small voices answered in unison. "Okay, dad, you get the toy."
